Giuliani Crushes on Bo Derek

Last week the top four GOP nomination candidates skipped the African-American debate at Morgan State University in Baltimore. Let's run down that list of debate-skippers again: Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson.

Debate moderator Tavis Smiley, of PBS fame, told CNN:
"They're trying to go, these front-runners, these Republican front-runners, trying to go through this entire primary process and never have to address voters of color and never be queried by journalists of color. And I think in the most multicultural, multiracial, multiethnic America ever, that, quite frankly, is unacceptable."

Here's Giuliani telling our friends at the Christian Broadcasting Network why he missed the Smiley debate.

My favorite part of Giuliani's excuse:
"When we say scheduling, it doesn't mean you can't change the schedule, of course you can. ... I had to do seven fundraisers today. I have to do seven fundraisers tomorrow. I don't know if the debate's today or tomorrow. I couldn't have possibly canceled three or four of them. It would have thrown off our entire campaign plan."

John Ehrenfeld of Brave New Films did a little investigative journalism of his own. Here's his discovery.

Maybe Giuliani, and the others, should spend a little more time with their constituents instead of celebrities. Was rubbing elbows with Bo Derek and Dennis Miller and pocketing $100,000 really worth snubbing an entire race of constituents?
