DaveHuckabee Generating The Buzz
Mike Huckabee was on Fox News Sunday and by my account did a great job. Along with Chuck Norris's endorsement, he's collected some other, ah, interesting endorsements, including Wrestler Ric Flair, and Authors Zig Ziglar and Jerry Jenkins. He's also visited my home area, the northeast suburbs of Cincinnati collecting campaign cash and firing up the troops. This area of Ohio is deep red Republican and a great place to kick start a campaign for the 2008 GOP nomination.
Given all that, what do I make of Huckabees candidacy and his chances? I'll admit, as should any other honest observer, that I have no idea who is going to win the Republican nomination. I will tell you what it's going to turn on for Huckabee and what he is up against.
The fact is that the nominee will be up against Hillary Clinton. The Clinton machine are proven winners. They are tough, they are ruthless, they are disciplined. I like Mike Huckabee, I think he's a decent person and I am fine with 90% of his positions. But I am not sure he has the fire to go up against the Clinton machine and take them down. In fact of all the candidates, the only one that is good in the tough campaigner category is Rudy Giuliani. This alone is probably explanation enough as to why he is leading the pack.
But for Huckabee, he's done good, he's managed his resources skillfully and well, he's gotten the GOP electorate to take a serious look at him and his candidacy and they like what they see. To go forward he needs to show a tougher side to prove that he can take on Hillary.

Actually, Huckabee has faced the "Clinton Machine" 4 times in Arkansas and beat it every time (only the 4th republican governor in Arkansas). He knows how the Clinton political process functions better than anybody.

Huck has beaten 4 candidates who all had the Clintons campaigning for them on the ground in Arkansas.
He is the only one who can attract flies with honey, which is Hillary's worst case scenario...she wants a mud slinging contest, because she has the biggest mud slinging guns out there...but Huck wont embrace that desire, and that is her weakness.

Huckabee has one serious handicap- he generally tells the truth. Facing "THE CLINTON MACHINE", which is uniquely gifted at being on all sides of most issues simultaneously, may require more of a moral relativist, like Rudy. "I LIKE MIKE", and prefer him to the rest of the Republican field. Being both honest and a Republican, I give him little chance of being nominated, and almost no chance of being elected if nominated.

I've noticed (like everyone else) that Huckabee has been rising in the polls. It seems like the media actually believes he has the opportunity to win now.
Huckabee is just a regular guy with an incredible message. I checked out:

When I say the Clinton Machine, I was generally thinking of the national level with James Carville etc. At the Arkansas level, I'm not sure that it's the same thing at all.
The fact that he has won at the Arkansas level is no small potatoes and I am taking him seriously, but many folks not from Arkansas don't know what he's been through. Just saying that toughness needs to be the next part of his message if he wants to go further.

Fair tax encourages black markets on everyday goods which = crime.
Fair tax punishes consumers which in turn punishes small business when consumers don’t consume or go to black markets.
That is hardly fair!
So I ask what is so cool?
I’m obviously a Romney fan but fair tax knocked Huckabee out of my second choice.

I did not say current tax system was fair but I think it is ignorant to fix one bad program by replacing it with another. Do you honestly think that people will go to the store and pay 7.00 for a jug of milk. Most will say no and find a way to get it at 2.00.

What about the families that have handicapped children- like me.
I spend 250 a month on over the counter and vit that my daughter has to have but ins will not pay for.
I spend 100 a month on diapers she has to have.
I travel 20,000 miles a year for her medical. MS to Ny every 3 months.
I depend on my income tax return for medical expenses or else I couldn’t live and my child could not get the things she needed.
Do you think fair tax is fair to me? Do you think I should pay as much taxes as a wealthy person just because I have no choice but to consume?

The fair tax will have a built in "prebate" for families that are struggling to make ends meet.
It will give money back DURING the year and not
just at the end based on earning level. It is designed esp for low income individuals and families.

If you depend on a tax return for anything, you first made a mistake in giving it to the government to hold in the foirst place. They don`t pay interest.
