Supreme Court To Hear 2nd Amendment Case

This is lump in the gut, do or die time for the NRA. The US Supreme Court has granted cert on a clear cut 2nd Amendment case. And not only that but the ruling should come out right in the middle of the 2008 campaign season, and either way it goes is sure to elevate gun control to the top of the issues list.

The U.S. Supreme Court said on Tuesday it would decide whether handguns can be banned in the nation's capital, a case that could produce its first ruling in nearly 70 years on the right of Americans to bear arms.

The nation's highest court agreed to hear an appeal by officials from the District of Columbia government arguing that the city's 31-year-old law banning private possession of handguns should be upheld as constitutional.

As I pointed out earlier, there is electoral danger here for Hillary Clinton. As the nominees most likely to go against the NRA are her husbands appointees. And all this will happen at the same time that she will be campaigning in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio and West Virginia.

Best case for Hillary is that the Supreme Court kicks off this case in a way that does not anger the NRA, but in that situation it will annoy her big city supporters in Washington D.C. New York, and Philadelphia. But I guess unlike drivers licenses for illegals, she can't put a lid on everything.
