From Fox:
Whatever public sympathy Hillary Clinton had built up during the tense hostage situation at her New Hampshire campaign office appeared to dissipate Saturday, as she was met with a round of boos during an address over the phone to an Iowa political event. This sounds more than a little odd to me. Why should the writer of this piece be assuming that public concern over a nut case with a bomb would carry over in the general campaign. It seems to me that the Clinton campaign took the appropriate steps, the police did their job and that was that. Only now we are affecting surprise that Hillary Clinton is getting negative attention? Please
I guess the folks at the Forum in Iowa didn't get the memo that negative attention toward Hillary Clinton was off limits during the aftermath. Positive attention, of course, is perfectly fine.
And also note that what was being booed:
At the Heartland Presidential Candidates Forum in Des Moines, community activists lustily booed the Democratic frontrunner after she declined to commit to passing comprehensive immigration reform in her first 100 days in office.
Which was a perfectly sensible thing for her to do, since the comprehensive immigration reform package we've seen in the last few years translates to hugely unpopular among the general American public. And even if it wasn't that unpopular, she's not going to commit to getting a tricky bill like this through congress in her first 100 days. It's just not a smart way to spend political capital.
But what this should prove to everyone is that immigration reform is not just a tricky issue for the GOP, it's very tricky for the Democratic candidates as well, as witness Hillary's response and subsequent killing of Eliot Spitzers drivers license program.
