Murray Waas, one of Washington's best investigative reporters,
has the story that could destroy Mike Huckabee's campaign. As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee played a key role in getting early parole for a convicted rapist. After the pardon, the man went on to rape and kill another woman.
Why would Mike Huckabee seek clemency for a convicted rapist? Because the nutty rightwing movement thought the man was framed, since his victim was a distant relation of Bill Clinton. In other words, Clinton-hatred resulted in the death of a woman.
The usually spot-on Atrios
notes that though "this story was, you know, pretty much insane didn't stop it from getting regular play in the conservative press." Worse than that, that was completely insane didn't stop it from impacting public policy and awful decision-making that resulted in a woman dying.

Our New Approach to Comments
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers –
a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
