On MSNBC's Countdown Tuesday evening, Keith Olbermann made a shocking accusation:
CNN's Lou Dobbs, whose daughters are involved in the "upper-class, super-expensive, elitist world of horses and hurdles," he said, "spends his money indirectly employing hundreds of the very people he rails against each night."
His proof? According to Vicky Moon's book, A Sunday Horse: Inside The Grand Prix Show Jumping Circuit, Dobbs' two daughters are serious horse enthusiasts, knee-deep in an industry that relies heavily on illegal workers. "This melting pot of international equine aficionados," she writes, "does not include the countless numbers of illegal Spanish-speaking immigrants who shovel the 40 tons of poop a day."
So, is there a connection? Is Lou Dobbs in fact a two-faced hypocrite? Have the terrorists won? Decide for yourself. WARNING: The following video contains multiple references to "poop."
B. Brandon Barker is the author of the novel Operation EMU.
B. Brandon Barker's writing has appeared in Global City Review, The Year's Best Fantasy & Horror (St. Martin's Press), Verbicide, The Feed and online at McSweeney's. He's also the author of the novel Operation Emu. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, he was born in England, raised in Arkansas and now lives in Virginia.
Hypocrite much? These girls were riding well before they were adults (an olympic caliber rider hardly just started, Mr. Garland), and the enormous amount of money this particular gentleman poured into the industry sure does seem counter to his "protect America/immigrants bad" argument. As someone who has worked in the equestrian industry for 12 years (and no, my parents never spent the minimum 15K a month for the trainers required to achieved this level, much less the 6 digits required to procure an animal capable of this type of athletics), I see undocumented workers working harder than most kids I went to college with, to only be underpaid and have no workers rights. Plus, let's not forget, unless you are Native American, you are descended from immigrants. Let's ask Mr. Dobbs, if he is so strongly principled, to please stop paying people who employ undocumented workers.

I am a regular viewer of Olbermann's show, but was disappointed by his rant last evening against Dobbs. Frankly, I would prefer him to actually cover the poverty of American citizens that is pandemic in each of the 50 states that even he ignores. Dobbs doesn't own the stables his daughter's horse is housed in, and in all honesty, the father's of show jumpers aren't hanging around the stables.
I appreciate Dobb's reporting on the long term unemployment and underemployment problem faced by American citizens. Where I live (Michigan), 1,000 citizens lose their jobs per week, homelessness is a serious problem. Hunger and the health care crisis are serious, and food, medicines and other products manufactured in China and elsewhere that are contaminated and toxic are cause for serious concern. I know someone whose daughter was prescribed a commonly prescribed medication for a head cold that has been banned by the FDA, it turned a healthy 24 year old girl, into someone with a rapidly accelerated heart rate, and severe breathing problems that haven't gone away 4 months later.
We bleed jobs each month, and the unemployment problem is far higher than 4.7%, the media isn't covering that. Malnutrition, anemia because American citizens can not afford to feed their families are once again serious problems. Why does Keith assume that the same Bush administration that lied us into Iraq, would be truthful about the realities of our economy, and the true state of employment? Could it be that as this doesn't impact Keith, he's either ignorant or indifferent to it?
Instead of covering the wider realities, Olbermann restricts his coverage of the issues to a rare few.. how can he claim to care about the human rights of illegal aliens, when he is so willing to ignore the human and civil rights of poor American citizens? Is he that out of the loop that he isn't cognizant of a very important fact, that when he rationalizes the status quo of Mexico and other Latin American countries, he's helping the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable to impose that same status quo here. Not only is he insuring that things will never change in those countries, he's helping to change the situation here, by covering up for those exploiting illegal aliens and pitting them against poor American citizens, to reduce America and her people to third world status. For a man who likes to act as though he cares, he's showing himself to be as rabid and reactionanary as Bill O'Lielly.

Oh Please. The point is Dobbs rails every day against a system his daughters benefit from. Of course he knows he doesn't care when it benefits his family.

Does anybody actually watch Keith Olbermann? I think not. Whereas Lou speaks for the vast majority of the country in his views...I'm actually surprised MSNBC sticks with Olbermann as he's droll and not particularly bright.

I used to like Lou Dobbs before he quit CNN the first time, but now I can't stand him.
I agree that we have to stop illegal immigration, but we can't become a protectionist economy, hoping to stop the sending of jobs to China, India, and Mexico

So Kent, you don't like Dobbs because you fear his advocacy for stopping the flow of American jobs overseas? Why, is it because you profit from outsourcing, squeezing even more profit from doing so, and incidently by importing toxic and contaminated goods into the US?
Protecting our country and our people isn't wrong, perhaps George Bush, and foreign governments who don't believe in human and civil rights, and the corporate elite want us to feel that way.. but the American people are the ones who hold the power.
Chymic, Lou Dobbs rails against the exploitation of workers, the importation of poisonous and contaminted food, medicine and other goods. He speaks up for the honoring of citizen's rights, and our constitution. He speaks out against corruption in government. As to what his daughters benefit from, the facts are that if they don't own the stables where the horses they ride are housed, they don't make the decisions regarding The ones profiting, who you seem to be interested in protecting, are the corporate interests who want to undermine American wage standards and workplace protections, and environmental laws.
You attack Dobbs, who isn't making excuses and lying to protect corporate paymasters, or things he might or might not profit from.. yet you aren't attacking those who are actually profiting from undermining wages, etc.. do you comprehend how hypocritical you sound?

Olberman repeatedly makes snide remarks about Dobbs and others who do not share his views, while Dobbs, has, to his credit, acted professionally in the face Olberman's hate speech. When it comes to shoveling poop on a daily basis Olberman could probably teach the claimed illegal aliens a few lessions, increasing their efficiency and thereby ending some employment opportunities and reducing the number in the country. How old are Dobbs' daughters? If they are 18 or over, they are adults and he has no legal right to control their activities.

Somehow, the words "Lou Dobbs" and "poop" just seem to go so well together.

There is only one way to stop illegal immigration ... EMPLOYERS, EMPLOYERS, EMPLOYERS. The fence and everything else is a smoke screen. If wall street and main street stopped hiring illegals the flow may not stop completely, but it would certainly slow to a trickle. In a world of computers finding an illegal using someone else's Social Security card should be easy and it really is so don't let companies, the media, or the government fool you. They just want cheap labor and for the rest of us to pay the price with overcrowded schools and hospitals. If a company can't afford to pay for medical or a living wage, then they have no business hiring period. They are not only taking advantage of the illegals, they are also taking advantage of the rest of us who are forced to pay these costs one way or another.

Yes Kent, a lot of people do watch Keith Olbermann and thank goodness for him - it affords us with another view of the issues other than that which is shoved down our throats bu the likes of big fat hippocrit Lou Dobbs. In fact, he is the only one fact checking this hippocrit asshole and the rest of his ilk.
