NH NEA Endorses Huckabee

From Hotline we have the story that the New Hampshire NEA is endorsing Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee in the New Hampshire primaries. The Hillary Clinton endorsement is not news and was expected. But the fact that a state level NEA is endorsing a Republican at all is interesting, much less the socially conservative, no-gay-marriage, creationist, Southern Baptist, Homeschool loving Mike Huckabee.

The state chapter's membership is more than 25 percent Republican, said the source, and the committee didn't want those members to be ignored. When Huckabee spoke at the convention and participated in an interview with the state affiliate, deciding members felt it would be right to point that out to members. Only education and related positions were considered, and the board appreciated Huckabee's "strong views on public education," especially supporting the arts and music. The board might have felt differently if it had considered the former Arkansas governor's opinions on "social values issues" and "war issues," the source said.

It's beyond weird. Both Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani could plausibly have said to be behind educational causes as well while being much less antagonistically opposed to the usual stock positions of this liberal organizations. Such as gays, abortion, creationism etc.

I'm going to let my cynical side out again. Yeah I know I barely ever keep him locked up, but this time he's begging to come out. Here we go: This has to be an attempt to damage Mike Huckabee and take him out. Think about it. Mike Huckabee is doing great with religious voters but is not trusted at all by the conservative blogosphere, economic conservatives, immigration conservatives and almost every other kind of conservative. And now the NEA comes out and endorses him? Heck you might as well paint RINO on his forehead.

This is one endorsement Huckabee didn't need. Which may have been the point.
