Wow. Not only does Romney have to fend off Mike Huckabee in Iowa, but now in Michigan, Rasmussen has Huckabee in a one point lead. With leads in Iowa, Michigan, and South Carolina, we can see that this is a general realignment of the GOP nomination race, and not just a one state wonder.
Mike Huckabee's surging campaign has created a three-way toss-up in Michigan's Republican
Primary . The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Huckabee earning 21% of the vote. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the son of a former Michigan Governor, attracts 20% support while former New York City Mayor is the top choice for 19% of Likely Republican Primary Voters.
This is a serious blow to both McCain and Romney. McCain pulled off an impressive upset (since he was working against the state establishment GOP) and Romney is the son of a former governor Romney. How much that was going to help since governor Romney was many, many generations ago, and Mitt has spent most of his time "out East". When asked most Michigan voters said it was not a factor:
Only 16%, however, say that's more likely to make them vote for the younger Romney.
