And John McCain stacks up best among his rivals versus the Dems. Such are the findings of a new CNN poll which asked voters about hypothetical match-ups. Here's the breakdown:
Edwards beats Huckabee by 25 percentage points
Bests McCain by 8
Romney by 22
and Giuliani by 9
I guess Thompson isn't being taken seriously anymore, because he wasn't included.
As for McCain, he tops Clinton by 2 points
ties Obama and, as already mentioned, loses to Edwards by 8
Huckabee, Giuliani, and Romney would lose to all three of the top Dem contenders. Only McCain provides a small ray of hope by edging Clinton and matching Obama's numbers. Overall, Edwards performs the best for the Democrats against all Republican comers.
This poll of 1,002 registered voters (both Dem and Repub) seems to indicate that McCain and Edwards have the most crossover appeal. That's something that Edwards has been trying to convince people of, as the following internet ad illustrates.
