Obama Rumor: Edwards for AG
Dave
Even if this wasn't real, I wouldn't be surprised if the Obama campaign wouldn't float it just to pressure Edwards into making a deal.
Seems like a win-win solution all around. The Edwards campaign has not really gone anywhere, he has failed to win any states so far, and it looks like that pattern will hold. Edwards may be holding out for a VP slot, but after 2004, he should know that lightning does not strike twice. AG must be an awfully enticing position for a big trial lawyer like John Edwards. It's not hard to imagine how he could pursue his pet causes in such a position.Illinois Democrats close to Sen. Barack Obama are quietly passing the word that John Edwards will be named attorney general in an Obama administration.
Installation at the Justice Department of multimillionaire trial lawyer Edwards would please not only the union leaders supporting him for president but organized labor in general. The unions relish the prospect of an unequivocal labor partisan as the nation's top legal officer
The wild card here is Hillary, and she should see the advantages of a Clinton/Edwards united front versus Obama, just as Obama could use Edwards help versus Clinton. The question is probably a mixture of who Edwards feels more comfortable with/ who he thinks is likely to win/ and who offers the better deal.
Again, this may not be real, but I am quite certain that there are proposals for John Edwards from both campaigns that look a lot like this rumor.
