JFK's Daughter Endorses Obama

I only hope that Americans don't drop the ball at the last minute and play it safe by voting for the "safe" candidate (Hillary) and keep in mind that change is scary but it is so desperately needed in America and soon! I remember when America was so up in arms about a "Catholic" President, JFK. Don't let the fear of fear (negative campaigning)make up our minds. Thank you Caroline for your insight and hope.

I remember JFK and in no way do I believe Obama is like John. Sorry Caroline but I firmly disagree with that point. Your backing Obama has no real meaning to me as a voter in this election but as one who lived, voted for and admired JFK then and now I can see nothing in Obama that reminds me of John F. Kennedy. I think it will lead many people to vote for the memory of what we believed John could do for this country and do nothing for the American people as those that will lean to this endorcement will not look to their own ability to make a decision. I am very thankfull that we all can say what we believe in and vote for our choice, I just wish more Amricans would take this to heart and make their decision based on what they believe in.

I voted for JFK and I see no resemblence between him and Obama, Caroline was too young to remember her Dad which was sad. JFK did inspire Americans to hope for the future, notice I said Americans, not a particular race, and JFK was not as wet behind the ears as Obama is . Obama does inspire hope for the Blacks and especilly for the young blacks which they will find that projection does not live up to reality, Obama and Hilary both have been stumping on issues that take away the American dream including Illegal Immigration and they have been promising the American Dream to Hispanics whether they be Illegal or not. Illegal Immigration has caused states to go under with welfare, Medical , education and jobs, they also send monies back to family in Mexico (legal Immigrants also do that)and the monies go into the Mexican economy , not the American economy. Obama also had signs and spoke some spanish to hispanics which did not show any respect for the fact that he is running for President of the United States and this is an English speaking country. The people are panicky and that is a bad attitude to be picking a Presidential candidate with. Many diseasterous mistakes have been made in history that way. Check the Candidate out thoroughly before voting, find out what they are for pro and con on the future of America. This is too serious to be voting for race or other petty reasons.

Most touching words from Caroline, and words with which I agree entirely. How might JFK and Obama be compared, really? It seems simply that both spoke with the voice of Idealism. And that's good enough for me. Truth told, it's enough for me that a candidate merely tell the truth as he or she knows it. And that's why I wouldn't vote for Hillary even if she received the nomination. For I don't forgive the Clintons their foul campaigning, their despicable lies about Obama.

As to other things that have been said about Obama, that he is a Muslim, that he doesn't do honor to the Pledge of Allegiance, etc. -- such accusations are delivered by such cretins as don't vote anyway and are too stupid even to wipe the spittle from their chins while spewing their racist sentiments.

FYI, foreign people" cannot run for President of the United States. Whatever else you think of Obama, he was born in Honolulu to an American mother, which makes him a US citizen from birth.

Barack Hussein IS a candidate for blacks and moslems and the drug culture and for crooked politicians in Chicago. He may think he is and be thought of as "the great black hope" and the man who would be "king"...(not even worthy of MLK''s coat tails) - but the reality is this guy is transparent as a window and his speeches and promises are like a broken record. And now he is being molded by slick madison ave. marketing types. Any way you cut it..it IS a racial issue and he IS a cancidate who''s main appeal is to blacks and blacks only. He''ll win SC because he is....black. Fortunately, the other states...the Super Tuesday states...have a population base where people won''t vote for a candidate just because the local black get-out-the-vote machines will prevail...rather good judgement and calling a spade a spade - and a former drug-using wanna be just that...the great wanna be pretender.

I, as a UK resident & of Irish birth (Dublin) might respectfully make an observation here. I met JFK, briefly, as his motorcade crawled along O'Connell St. in Dublin during the early sixties.(remember the visit to his ancestral home?) To us Dubliners, and the world at large, he seemed the very embodiment of a Greek God. His Florida tan & exquisite attire, masked a more mundane reality. As history relates, he scraped into the White House on the thinnest of margins & carried far more baggage (both politically & personal) than was obvious in those halcyon days. Those who enthuse at the likelihood of an Obama presidency beware. America will not elect a black president, (Kennedy's catholicism made it a close run thing!) but if the Democrats elect Sen. Obama as their candidate, it will hand the prize to the Republicans. One can only imagine the right-wing destruction of B.Obama. This is pragmatism not racism & all politics are pragmatic!! if not politicians.

I respect and appreciate Caroly,n's opinion. Although many may not agree with it she is entitled to it. The message that she is trying to convey is that her father was passionate about seeking change and she sees that same passion in Barack Obama. I personally am looking for change and I do believe that Barack Obama is ready to give that change. As far as some of the comments that I have heard about not having Obama in office because of his race is crazy. IT IS 2008! Number one- he is not just African America, but white as well, meaing that he is able to appreciate different races, religions, etc... Number 2- Are you telling me that a well educated man, who graduated from Harvard Law School, is unable to run a country based on the fact that he is not a white male? These ideas are outlandish and anyone who believes them might as well put a white sheet on their head, jump on a horse and join your Arian brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As far as I am concerned any man who finishes law school, and decides to work in the streets for the American people, instead of trying to land a large hot-shot job, has my vote. This shows his willingness and dedication. I want someone who I believe will not just sit behind a desk, but sacrifice his finances and well-being to ensure that people are able to find jobs and afford healthcare. I would rather have a president who stands up to the Bush administration and discredits their ideas of going to war and stands behind that idea 100%. If you want to now where his experience lies, it is in these facts. People please do your research and realize that Obama is a great candidate for the job. Iowa has seen it and so has South Carolina...it is your turn now!

There could be other similarities to Kennedy that are too frightening to think about, but you better.

Just imagine President Obama assasinated by a white supremacist. Imagine what that would to to this country. Race riots that would make the Rodney King riots in L.A. look like girl scount campfires.

All you "cool" Obama people would have to explain your white skin to someone who just does not care who you are or what you believe.

We are not ready for a black president, at least not this one. Someone like Colin Powell would have been the kind of person who could have done it. Someone who did not play the race card. Barak is all black all the time...never mind that he is half white. If he had run as an inter-racial person maybe but it's too late for that now.

Um, David S. I don't think Caroline had the chance to know him personally for very long either. She certainly did not know him long enough or well enough to know he would support Barak Obama.

Shame on all of you nay-sayers to Caroline's endorsement of Barak Obama. She as John F. Kennedy's daughter has more right than anyone to compare a candidate to her father. And she is right. When you listen to Barak speak, watch the response of those at his rallies, and see the record number of voters that are coming out everywhere to vote because of his candidacy, you cannot dispute the excitement and hope his candidacy generates with many: the young, the poor, the middle class, white, African American, and otherwise.
And if you take the time to research and hear his position on the issues, you'd realize he does have well-thought out ideas and opinions.
It's extremely unfortunate that after all of the forward strides that have been made by the civil rights movement (which John Kennedy and his family were and are an integral part of),there are still so many racists in this country, as evidenced by a number of the e-mails on this blog site.
As for those of you who say you see the Kennedys' legacy in politics as "old guard", what about the Clintons, who had their 8 years in the White House and really didn't make it better for Americans generally?
I for one applaud Caroline feeling strongly enough to endorse Barack Obama,something she hasn't done for a candidate before and which none of us should take lightly.
Those who feel otherwise, please do your research and cast your vote in this election knowledgeably, thoughtfully, and with open-mindedness.
