In perhaps the most devastating demographic exit polling defeat in this election, if not the history of this great nation, Barack Obama, who enjoyed broad support across most groups, was unable to secure the "Himself"-Girl vote. From The New York Times' City Room:
To those who would accuse her of a hedge against the possibility of a Clinton win, and the attendant offer of a cabinet post, or who would point out that she managed to venture out into the night for an election returns party, and to those who say that the Romney Girls were right about her, I say to you, with every fiber of my beating American heart, "At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"
Update: Sandy, where have you been? I haven't heard from you in awhile. Glad to hear you voted for Clinton, but surprised you only voted once, LOL. You are right, of course, I am sure Amber has persuaded many more people to vote for Barack than the one vote she missed. Since she's a fellow Jerseyite, I will make a standing offer to get her to the polls come November. It's the least I can do for my country.
On Tuesday night, City Room ran into Ms. Ettinger ("Obama Girl" Amber Lee) at an election-watching party in Greenwich Village and asked how things went at the polls.Normally, I am the first person to jump all over someone for not voting, especially an outspoken figure like Amber Lee Ettinger, but it may surprise you that this reporter is coming to the Senatorial Siren's defense. First of all, according to the same report, she was ill, and unable to make the trek to the polls. Secondly, it's only a primary. But most importantly, it turns out Obama Girl is also a Jersey Girl. Game over.
"I didn't get a chance to vote today because I'm not registered to vote in New York," she said.
