Last night was a new, and revealing chapter, in the media drama that is Chris Matthews. Following Barack Obama's speech, in Wisconsin, essentially his Crab Cake Primary Victory Speech, Matthews made another scene.
Matthews is known to add color and embellish, always looking to make the prosaic melodramatic. So in declaring to those watching the emotional impact of hearing Obama speak (not in person but via a satellite fed), Matthews said:
The feeling most people get when they hear a Barack Obama speech, I mean, I get, I felt this thrill go up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often.
Yes, Chris Matthews has a certain thrill that travels up his leg when Obama speaks. One tries to block the image of Matthews watching an Obama musical video.
This is not a 'Swift Boating' of the Potomac's favorite wind-bag; let's review further!
Get the new PD toolbar!About half an hour later, Brian Williams was asked about the primary results last night and he piled-on:
Williams: Let's talk about that feeling that Chris Matthews gets up his leg when Obama talks for starters. That seems to be the headline of this half-hour.
Olbermann: No, No!
Matthews: Ha! Don't tread on it if it's a good line.
If it weren't so rude to suggest senility, I would.
This isn't Matthews first (nor likely to be his last) loose tongue incident. Hardball viewers remember his self-inflating so-called apology to supporters of Hillary Clinton over his previous take on her credibility:
This is part of his diatribe that prompted the apology::
Matthews also went on a side-tangent, last night, about ethnic bus lines; this is simply the making of an oddball.
Yet, Chris Matthews isn't alone. MSNBC appears to have become an insensitive old white male broadcast variety show. Last week you had the David Schuester "pimp" comments about Chelsea Clinton. And Keith Olbermann continues to make cracks about John McCain's age (is ageism ok now? maybe its a Boomer thing).
This morning Joe Scarborough kept the absurdity going by saying about Clinton's communication flack: "If I were Howard Wolfson, I might have a feeling running down my leg."
Are these "news anchors" so bereft of imagination that the only intelligent description or analysis of current events they can muster must make use of body fluids?
Clearly, there is a new line between real news and infotainment. But does MSNBC's clownish behavior example a broader problem?
Back in 1992, a common election bumper sticker read: Annoy the Media / Re-elect Bush. It was cute and summed up the common and obvious advantage that then-Governor Bill Clinton had when running for President against George H.W. Bush. Bush was old news, Clinton was new. It wasn't just a generational thing, it was also an ideological thing. It was all so long ago, but it seems all new again.
The difference, this time, the Clinton's are victims of the precise advantage they once enjoyed. Karma I guess.
Does the feelings that Chris Matthews gets in his thigh, impact his new coverage and commentary about the Presidential race? I bet it does.
Has Barack Obama, who like Hillary Clinton, has never won a tough election escaped scrutiny and been treated with favoritism? Possibly. Does Clinton get more negative press because she's not the "it" product this year? Probably. The equation on her gets so mixed because of her husband's rants.
Then again, no one noticed when Obama's spouse wouldn't commit to supporting Clinton if she were the nominee. Double-standard? Sure. But then again, Michelle Obama isn't a former POTUS.
Those who take-up the difficult job of representing the fourth estate on public airwaves (or public utilities) need a time-out. News personalities make mistakes, like all of us, but it is precisely because they are like the rest of us that we deserve to hear more straight facts and less folly.
The feeling I get in my leg when Senator Obama speaks is not pleasent. It feels as though someone is trying to pull my leg. For example, when Senator Obama promises, as one of his first acts as President, to provide every man ,woman ,and child in the nation to have access to universal health care, I remember that the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 8) vests the power to enact a universal health care program in the Congress; not in the Persident.
I wonder if Senator Obama plans to emulate President Vhavez of Venezuela b ymoving the power to legislate from Capitol Hill to the Oval office.
Most of his other promises, if kept ,woiuld usurp congressional powers. Where was Senator Obama with these programs when he was a U.S. Senator, with the full right to introduce legilation on the floor of the Senate?

Obama does give a great speach. What is the gripe? Punish people for saying what they think? Or for saying that he is inspirational.

Chris Matthews as well as other big buffoons should be fired. The sickening pro Obama bias is too much to take. I will vote for Senator Clinton...or no one. I have reported the comment by Matthews to the DNC.

I have no problem with Chris saying who he likes but to insinuate that Clinton was only where she is now because of the sympathy for Bill's affair. That just made him look stupid.

I'm a 73 years old female, and I too, get a thrill throughout my entire body when Sen. Obama speaks. He's not in any way promising things he intends to do by himself. Indeed, if you were truly listening, you would realize that he has the power and the will to unite Congress to do this. He knows the Constitution like the back of his hand. His speeches and background tell me, that he knows the only way he will get anything done is to unite the Congress to move forward. Not sit and investigate sports people.

I am not a big fan of Matthews, as he is pompous sometimes and cuts off his guests when they are speaking. But let's not lose our heads over the comment. Don't like the guy? Turn the channel. And Janie - above comment - Matthews should be fired? For what? And exactly what, pray tell, are you going to report to the DNC?!

TIM RUSSERT HAS SUGGESTED THAT IF OBAMA LOSES THE NOMINATION, WE WILL BE IN FOR RACE RIOTS. ARE WE BEING INTIMIDATED INTO VOTING FOR OBAMA BY THE MSM? IS THIS UNITING THE COUNTRY? IF HE WAS WHITE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN LAUGHED OFF THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL MONTHS AGO. THIS ISNT AMERICAN IDOL FOLKS. REMEMBER HOW THE MSM PUSHED GW BUSH DOWN OUR THROATS? HOW'S THAT WORKING OUT FOR US?

I can't believe you Chris Matthew, they should fire your ass from Hardball you have no right to talk about Hillary Clinton or what her husband did when he was President, his not the first or last President who's had an affair, only thing was he got caught. Newt Gingrich was a Senator the same time Clinton had his affair and put Clinton down even wanted Clinton impeached, so tell me Chris what was Newt doing himself??? Screwing around too wasn't he?? He was having an affair also, he put his foot in his mouth and when everyone found out he resigned from his job, LOL. I'm sure you've probably have had an affair yourself but not caught yet, people like you have a BIG MOUTH talk about others the way you do and not look at yourself. Bring up the rest of what the Republican's have done when they were in office not just Clinton's bring the attention to the media so people will know the whold truth and nothing but the truth to help us all.
We voted for Clinton and we hope she wins the Presidency, Obama has no experience what=so-ever who is this man anyway, he just dropped into the race and no one knows a damm thing about him??? Maybe the ANTI CHRIST!!!!
You and your Hardball program, shut your mouth up if you can't talk good about people I hate your progam and you too...

It is so clear that the media picks someone they favor and push to make certain THEIR choice is elected. I'm totally turned off Obama because they push him so. Do we really want a Muslim in the White house???? Remember Castro promised alot too. We'd better think long and hard on Obama..........

Why doesn't Obama want to debate in Wisconsin? Could it be that some of his lies about Hillary be exposed? What about his dealings with a Criminal in Chicago (who is in prison now) How much did he pay toward Obamas campaign? Who paid for a large portion of his Home???

All the MSNBC shows would not be so offensive if they would give us information. They don't have any, so how can they? What do you know about Barak? Only what he wants you to know. If Chris Mathews or Joe Scarbourgh want to bring up Bill Clinton's error and then mention Barak's drug use or his questionable house deal perhaps I would not be so outraged at them. But, I guess they are not reporters or commentators, just dumb talking heads.

Just to show you how prejudiced FOX news is...I just saw them compare Hillary's Super Tuesday's (mind you 24 states)statistics as far as # votes from each group etc....and compared it to Virginia vote(mostly all racist Blacks who votes for Obama) and showed how she was slipping. They are not fair and are extremely biased.....somebody is greasing their palm because they are doing everything they can to hurt Hillary Clinton. The worst offenders are that white bearded piece of sh_ _ and his so called fat, 4 eyed stupid looking "senior political analyst".....he should learn how to compar things on an equal basis. Virginia is a black state which votes for blacks because they are black......I don't know what's going on in the media but I hope it stops.... Hillary, in order to shut these a_ _ hol_ _ up///you have to win Wisconsin on 2/19 and definitely win Texas, Ohio and at least one of either Rhode Island or Vermont....but you have to win them big. Some of the senior citizens are going for Obama...don't know why...when he gives part of their Social Security check to his Black and Muslim people...then they'll learn...I hope to God they read this.

Your right Charles about Obama, we need Hillary to win those States you mentioned. What the hell is wrong with the Media?? Don't understand it myself, it's like Obama has power over all of them, who know's the saying in the Bible say's the Anti Christ will over power everyone and will disguise himself and people will do anything for him, maybe his alreay here Obama, those who are voting for him are stupid and ignorant they're looking at him as if he was GOD, like I said no one knows very much about him, I'm not racist but who is Obama? If Coronal Powell would have run for President I would have voted for him, his a powerful and wonderful person too bad his not running.
Our vote is for Hillary Clinton, wake up America, think what your doing if you haven't voted yet ask yourselves all those questions who is Obama, you think his going to help America, you just watch what's going to happen. NO EQUAL RIGHTS that's what I've heard before were the one that aren't going to have EQUAL RIGHTS if OBAMA HUSSAIN wins for President!!!

Well you could here the old wind bag Hillary with her BS, I want everyone to have the same medical I have. Well number one one you ain't getting the plan she has, number two you would get medical insurance, and the bad thing about that is you have to pay, and pay and pay, I already have one of those. I don't need her hand in my pocket. Time to give it up. And all the talk about McCain and the Illegals, why is she in Texas courting the Hispanic vote, their going to want something for that vote, and its amnesty
