John McCain: The Audacity of 'Nope!'

John McCain may be cruising to his inevitable coronation as the Republican Party's Presidential nominee, but already, McCain is running into a formidable adversary. Setting aside the revolt by conservative pundits like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh, who are always revolting anyway, McCain has had to do battle with another prominent Republican whose rhetoric has been making him look bad. The culprit is, of course, John McCain.

McCain's stump speeches have been rife with hope-repudiating ideas like a 100 year continuation of the Iraq War, and the observation that jobs lost overseas are not coming back. Barack Obama has begun making hay of McCain's passionate, principled initial opposition to the Bush tax cuts, followed by his ratification of them, saying that the "...wheels came off the straight talk express."

Even in his Potomac Primary victory speech, McCain had this uplifting quote:

"In a time of war, the promise of a brighter future is not always clear..." Wow. Where do I sign?

McCain has a new ad out now, attacking John McCain, in the form of this parody of "Yes, We Can", written "mostly by John McCain", from Barely Political. If John McCain is to have any chance at all in November, he's going to have to figure out a way to silence John McCain, or at least neutralize him. Update: Another , similar ad after the jump. Here's another McCain-themed parody of "Three Little Words" that has enough differences to merit its own look. Here's the deadly funny, "John.he.is."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
