Ashley Alexandra Dupré (born Ashley Youmans) left a broken home at the age of 17 and moved to New York City to make a name for herself. As of yesterday, she had succeeded.
The New York Timesreports that Ashley has spent the last few days holed up in her Manhattan apartment, contemplating her new place in history as the prostitute who (indirectly) brought down the tough-as-nails lawyer and Governor Eliot Spitzer.
She has slept very little the past week, telling The Times, "I just don't want to be thought of as a monster."
What does she want to be known for? Her music, of course. According to her MySpace page, "I am all about my music and my music is all about me. It flows from what I've been through, what I've seen and how I feel." Her MySpace profile also declares: "I can honestly tell you to never dwell on the past, but build from it and keep moving forward. Don't let anyone hold you back or tell you that you can't...because you can. I didn't and here I am, just listen to it."
Well, here's what: In spite of being named as a Federal Witness against four people charged in the prostitution ring through which Gov. Spitzer hired her, and in spite of being subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury, she's getting great reviews. New York Magazine says, "We sort of thought [she] would be some over-made-up 35-year-old with pounds worth of hair extensions and a laugh that sounded like a whinny. But the real "Kristen"... is nothing like that. In fact, we kind of like her." They go on to call her "a really cute girl."
For those wondering if she was worth the ruin of a promising political career (not to mention a whopping 80 Grand) Gawker has a buncha photos.

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
