The premise of Mike Judge's 2006 movie Idiocracy is that, over the years, the human race will become less and less smart, having fewer intelligences and mental capacities for thought. In the film, the president is a professional wrestler, the country is being run by Carl's Jr. and men are obsessed with lattes. But the premise, I think, is wrong. We are not getting dumber: When you consider the official 2008 LOLection®, for instance, with it's nutty songs, sexy governors, inappropriate rapping and leprechauns, after a while you become awash in the realization that there is serious Darwinian brilliance behind it all. | Dumb | |
