The McCain Girls: Forecast Calls for Silliness

For those not aware that this 2008 election season is the silliest on record, I'm here to tell you: This election is the silliest on record. Now that we've established that, it's time to introduce the latest musical number in what's turning out to be the equivalent of a four-month-long mandatory office party with a karaoke machine.

But first, let's recall that some of Sen. Hillary Clinton's supporters have produced brilliant song and dance numbers. Other Hillary supporters have spontaneously burst into song, while others have just burst.

True to form, the Democratic musical tributes are overly fawning, grandiose and self-conscious. Also true to form, the Republican attempts are derivative, literal, stiff and nonsensical. Like, for instance, The McCain Girls' video "It's Raining McCain," a re-make of The Weather Girls' 1982 hit "It's Raining Men." This truly mind-boggling production features lyrics like:

"It's raining McCain/Hallelujah it's raining McCain/Amen/I'm gonna go out/And let myself get/Ab-so-lutely John McCained." Now, I tried for a moment to imagine how that would feel exactly, then I quickly stopped.

Anyway, for those who dare:
