Poor, Bitter Americans Should Cheer Up!

Ken Layne's OutrageThe nerve of that Barack Obama! Did you hear what he said?

Hillary Clinton and the Republicans are acting very upset about some remarks Obama made at some fundraiser. And it's no wonder: Obama said poor small-town Americans are bitter because the Clintons and the Republicans have been screwing over American working people for the past 28 years.

Since Reagan took office in 1981 -- and onward through the Bush Senior, Clinton and Bush Junior presidencies -- working class people apparently just keep getting poorer, while more people are "falling out of the middle class," and even economic "booms" are completely passing over all but the richest 5% of the nation.

Senator Clinton and the Republicans are not dummies. They know that when people start realizing that this country is just getting poorer and dumber and angrier every year, it's not long before Americans start thinking that maybe the Clintons and Bushes don't actually give a hoot.

If things are going to stay the same (or keep getting worse) in this country, it's important for the Clintons and Republicans to pretend they're very offended because Obama said poor people are bitter about being poor forever.

Pouncing on Obama for noticing that poor working people are bitter is just the kind of fun new campaign tactic that we hope will define the rest of 2008. Here are some other real examples you can expect to hear about all over again, soon!

    * John McCain, for example, has described conservative Christians as "agents of intolerance." In other words: Bitter! Has McCain apologized?

    * Hillary Clinton has dismissed the black cultural icon Sinbad with a snide, "He's a comedian, you know." Has the junior senator from New York apologized for her bitter comments?

    * McCain insulted the brave Swift Boat nuts as "dishonest and dishonorable." When will he apologize to these bitter veterans?

    * When Bill was governor of Arkansas, Hillary reportedly insulted the Arkansas state troopers assigned to protect her as "s**t-kickers" -- a slur against rural white people -- and refused to even talk to them! Mrs. Clinton told them to "Just do your g****mn job and keep your mouth shut." Has she apologized?

    * McCain said in 2005: "I am sure that Senator Clinton would make a good President. I have no doubt that Senator Clinton would make a good President." Has he apologized to bitter conservative men who hate Hillary?

Ken Layne is the editor of Wonkette. He is very bitter about working, especially on a Sunday.

How are you feeling about the economy?
