Media Discovers Another Obama Weakness

This is what primaries are supposed to be about. Instead of coronations, they should be vetting processes where disastrous flaws with a candidate are discovered before a general election. The Democrats problem is the same as the Republicans: all of their candidates are incredibly flawed.

Up until recently, the Democrats believed that Obama was a knight in shining armor, but recent events have determined that the armor is not quite as shiny as they thought. First we had reverend Wright damning America, and now the media has uncovered another huge problem in Obama's association with an American terrorist.

The sharp exchange over onetime Weather Underground member William Ayers came after Obama was asked by ABC News debate moderator George Stephanopoulos to explain his association with Ayers, whose radical group planned bombings at sites including the Pentagon - and who has since said he doesn't "regret" it.

Ayers lives in Obama's neighborhood and hosted a meeting the candidate attended in 1995, when he was running for state Senate. Ayers was never prosecuted and is now a University of Illinois professor.

More on Ayers from Wikipedia:

In 2001, Ayers published Fugitive Days: A Memoir. Ayers's interview with the New York Times about his book was published on September 11, 2001, and opens with his statement, "I don't regret setting bombs, I feel we didn't do enough." The interview also includes his reaction (in his book) to Emile De Antonio's 1976 documentary film about the Weathermen: "He was 'embarrassed by the arrogance, the solipsism, the absolute certainty that we and we alone knew the way. The rigidity and the narcissism."[1] Ayers stated that by "no regrets" he meant that he didn't regret his efforts to oppose the Vietnam War, and that "we didn't do enough" meant that efforts to stop the war were obviously inadequate as it dragged on for a decade.[3] New Politics reviewer Jesse Lemisch has contrasted Ayers's recollections with those of other Weathermen and alleged serious factual errors.[4]

This, obviously, is another big problem and a big tarnish on the Obama armor. And pointing out that Hillary has her own history with Domestic terrorism, doesn't help Obama... It helps John McCain. In fact any discussion with the words "terror" or "terrorism" or "defense" or "national security" plays right into McCain's hands.

But that's also exactly what Hillary needs to do, she's in desperation mode and tearing down Obama and helping McCain is the only way she gets her shot at the nomination. It's winning ugly, but Hillary is definitely OK with that.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
