In the world of First Daughters, Chelsea Clinton has been getting
a lot of attention during this

election season, deservedly so. However,
Jenna Bush may have just put herself on the national radar with an exchange on Larry King Live. The
Newark Examiner reports:
Speaking on Larry King Live last night, first daughter Jenna Bush, who appeared alongside first lady Laura Bush, confessed that she's not sure if she'll vote for the presumptive Republican nominee for president, Sen. John McCain, and even left open the possibility that she'd support either Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. Hillary Clinton. KING: Do you have a favorite between the two, the two Democrats?
LAURA BUSH: My favorite is the Republican.
KING (pointing to Jenna): Yours too, I would imagine.
JENNA BUSH: I don't know.
KING: A-ha! Are you open to...
JENNA BUSH: Yeah, of course. I mean, who isn't open to learning about the candidates and I'm sure that everybody's like that.
While Jenna isn't exactly out stumping for Hillary or Barack, a vote of no confidence from her could hurt McCain in the general election, where disengaged voters are swayed by watercooler topics like this.
Still, a Jenna-Chelsea double-team isn't as far-fetched as it seems.
Jenna first made headlines as a member of
The Bush Twins, easy targets of late-night TV hosts. Now, it turns out, she's grown into at least the compassionate side of "compassionate conservative."
In her
first television interview, Jenna was careful not to repudiate her father's policies outright, but made it clear that she has a mind of her own.
"What about the abstinence question, which we think of as part of the administration? Was it tricky to be writing about AIDS and sexual choices and condoms?" Sawyer asked Bush.
"No, I mean, not at all. First, because I'm not part of the administration. You know, I'm just my father's daughter. I think that when we're talking about keeping kids safe, and we're talking about Ana and other kids that are living with HIV or other STDs, kids need to have education. They need to be educated in order to make the right decision for themselves," she said.
This might not make her ready to belly up to the bar for her local
Drinking Liberally meeting, but it's a start. And on the subject of
current media darling Chelsea Clinton?
When asked by Sawyer whether there was a White House child that she always thought she'd like to emulate, Bush said, "I think Chelsea Clinton is very kind and smart and articulate. And she's always been very friendly to us, but we just wanted to be ourselves. ... She's beautiful and poised all the time."
Sounds like this could be the start of a beautiful friendship. Look out, John McCain.
