Hillary Doesn't Listen to Economists

She doesn't consider them the end-all and be-all when it comes to complex issues. Where were all the expert economists when the housing market was getting ready to implode? Where was Greenspan for that matter. Economists don't necessarily agree on what constitutes the best solution to a financial down-turn.

I do beleive that she did not intend for it to be as it came out. I believe that what she was saying is that the economist that where critizing the concept were not looking at the full ramifications of the concept. She has spoken about the affect that this will have on everything, from the every day driving to the movement of goods around the country. Think about it, it would do more than just lower our own cost of travel, but those of the big rigs, and farmers' usage, which could lead to some small relief in our shopping, at restaurants or on our tables. If the savings are not passed on by the middle men, than it may allow them to keep moving our supplies or allow a small business to survive. Just think about it, if a trucker goes out of business, less transporation is available to move goods, demand goes up for the remaining haulers; and they will raise prices (supply & demand theory). It may not seem like a lot, but I would like to have and extra $75 the end of the 3 month period. Just because someone saves on gas does not mean they will drive more. More money to spend ends up creating jobs or deposits in the bank, which allows more money to be spent or loaned out by the banks. Basic econ 101 theory. guess what, there is a multiplier affec. This is not being explained by the media, or they don't care to be fair in thier evaluation of what a small savings means to the average individual. This has been the problem for the last 7+ yrs, think big and ignore the little guy's plight to survive.

Thanks for your comment. I appreciate the sentiment behind it. Unfortunately, every economist out there will tell you that the consumer won't feel any relief from a gas tax holiday. Oil companies will simply tack on the amount to the existing price. Moreover, it will hurt people by robbing the Treasury and the Highway Trust Fund, so that roads will become that much more dangerous than they already are. It's just a bad idea, and she should have the smarts to realize it.

Give the gas tax break. It will help the Truck Drivers who delivery our bread, milk, eggs and everything else that has gone up because of transportation cost.. (it will also help keep these products from going up by lowering the gas)

Make the Oil Companys pay the tax, their Corporate Leaders can do without a few of those billion dollars bonuses..

Considering that more People are having to travel farther to find work, a savings of around 80 to $100 (it can help buy groceries )dollars is alot.

And while this is being done, congress and senate need to actively pursue the Energy companies and stop this gas insanity.

Do not punish all drivers for the selfish ones that want to drive hummers and super extended cab trucks that are not used for work or livestock.

There may need to be some sort of rationing, if they can ration rice they can ration gas.

What kind of diplomacy class did Hillary go to when she threatens to nuke another country. And the gas tax thing is a 30 dollar version of Bush’s rebate. We shouldn’t want more of the same.

Hi Hillary lovers, It seems to me that Hillary is riding along with McCain's idea of a tax holiday in order to get some quick easy votes. They all know that it will do nothing but make a few uninformed Americans feel good until the oil companies raise the price of gas so that the tax relief ends up in their pockets. I wish Hillary could be honest, does she think in this time of technology and access to information she can bend the truth or spin these ideas where it either won't work or she promises to do all these wonderful things but we all know she will not be able to pay for them without taxing us like the Queen of England. Hillary was caught in a misstep and in typical fashion refuses to acknowledge that she spoke first and thought later. She's been doing this the whole campaign, whether it was her ill-thought-out knee-jerk choice of campaign manager, her misspeaking about her Bosnia trip, her slow-to-distance-herself from Geraldine Ferraro's outrageously racist comments, or now this ill-advised pander-move to appeal to the lowest common denominator at the risk of harming our infrastructure. She absolutely maddens me. I really do like her as a senator. But she has to start to learn some humility and acknowledge when she's been an idiot. I'll still go with Hillary - a candidate who trusts her own knowledge and experience - rather than Obama, who needs "somebody who knows about a bunch of stuff that I'm not as expert on."

Less cost for truckers = less cost for goods. Yeah, individuals only save around $30.00 for the summer, but, the savings on other products will be good for individuals. Also, if oil is paying the taxes on it's own product, don't you think they're going to try to keep the prices as low as they can? Again, that will be good for the working man.

Economist in general argue that it's not good for big business. Well, DUH. I haven't seen any big businesses losing their homes lately, have you? Nor do I hear Obama providing ANY sort of solution short or long term.

Clinton's plan makes the oil companies pay the taxes for us, McCain's does not have anyone paying the taxes. With the taxes being paid by big oil, our transportation structure doesn't suffer.
