Clinton Insider Jumping to Obama?

It's beginning to look a lot like the general election. During the last week, haymakers Barack Obama and John McCain threw at each other dominated headlines. Meanwhile, an article on the front page of The New York Times ponders the significance of "the waning days" of Senator Clinton's campaign while The Washington Post reports that fund raisers for Clinton and Obama are working on a merger.

While the Clinton campaign continues to remind us that it's not over, Ben Smith of The Politico reports that Clinton's former campaign manager and perennial Clinton insider Patti Solis Doyle discussed working for the Obama campaign in the general election with Obama's chief strategist David Axelrod. "I've talked to Patti throughout," Axelrod said, "I know that she wants to be helpful in a general election campaign, and we appreciate that."
In February, Solis Doyle made headlines when she was shifted from the role of campaign manager to senior adviser to the campaign. At the time, Mark Silva of the The Swamp reported that Solis Doyle didn't tell Clinton until after the New Hampshire primary that funding had run dry and that there was next to no cash on hand.

Smith reports that Solis Doyle didn't deny that the subject of a job with the Obama campaign came up in her talks with Axelrod, but she maintains that no specifics were discussed. "Obviously, when this thing is done," Axelrod said, "we're going to want to bring talented people from all over the party into the fold here. We're not there yet."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
