You can't always get what you want. But if you raise enough of a stink and threaten to take your fight all the way the credentials committee at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August, you might find, you get what you need. Or something like that.
From our friends at Time magazine comes word that Bill Clinton is aggressively working to see that his wife is included on the Democratic ticket. Second fiddle is better than no fiddle at all:
Her husband, for one, seems to have a pretty clear idea what he thinks she should get as a consolation prize. In Bill Clinton's view, she has earned nothing short of an offer to be Obama's running mate, according to some who are close to the former President. Bill "is pushing real hard for this to happen," says a friend.
The story was corroborated a day later by The New York Times. But really, the 64-thousand-dollar-question is, What Does Hillary Want? Calling Mel Gibson and his gender-specific psychic powers. Tell us, Mel, what's brewing in that noggin of hers? Most observers will admit that, in terms of delegates, this race is over. While Hillary Clinton may yet be able to gerrymander a popular vote edge (if Michigan and Florida go entirely in her favor, and we don't try to assign vote tallies to a few of those pesky caucus states), only a superdelegate miracle that overturns pledged delegates (i.e. the will of the people) can save her bid to become president-elect in 2008.
So, is her goal to nab the V.P. slot? And do threats to hijack the mile-high city really help in this cause? I'll leave the tea leaves to Mel. Here's a track from the Rolling Stones to, er, play us out.
The only way I am voting Democratic which I am and love Hillary is if she is on the ticket, Obama makes me feel so unsafe I would rather have McCain because at least he is sane!

The teas leaves may have the answer but I think it is still up in the air. It's a 24,000 dollar question. Sort of a be dammed if ya do and be dammed if you don't. On one hand could be an asset, on the hand could be a liability. I will lkeave iut up to Obama and his campain stratagerians to mull over. Although I am not fond of or smitten with H.R. Clinton, I am much less fond of the Republican regime.

All candidates are sane Sandy. What is insane is how badly they are talked about when nary a person has met them or knows them on a one-to-one personal level but yet judges them harshly or rips them to threads. These kind of politic attacks are irrational. Especially when a great deal of the warped stuff being propagated is either totally untrue, twisted or mere spins. Shame on those who are partakers of such insanity.

Love the Rolling Stones lead into your article.... you changed the words a little but....made the point
I don't think Hillary Clinton is manipulating the votes in Florida she won them, I know I sound like a broken "record" but she did.

Suzanne,
Thank you, as always, for your comment. While I believe that the DNC screwed up with its decision to strip Florida and Michigan, I would argue that trying to seat these delegate counts as is amounts to an even bigger travesty. As a voter in Florida, I knew full well that my vote in the Democratic primary would not count. I know several people who did not go to the polls for that very reason. Furthermore, Clinton came into this campaign with much greater voter-recognition. Obama has always been "introducing" himself to voters, and tends to gain support wherever he campaigns. When each candidate pledged not to campaign in Florida, that gave Clinton a distinct advantage. To my mind, these factors prevent us from considering the Florida tally as is.
When the DNC made its decision, nobody knew this race would end up to be so close. Has the decision ultimately hurt Clinton's bid. Yes. That was very bad luck. The irony is that if Florida had simply waited for their original primary date, they would have played a huge role in the outcome of the campaign.

Hill as VP is the only way I would consider voting for Obama. Since 1972, I have never voted for a Republican. This is a year for firsts. McCain will win huge anyway.

Many have pondered over who Obama's Vice Pres. pick would be. I am certain many are being considered for the slot. A first African-American Pres. and first female Vice Pres. in the White House sounds very historical. At best, my guess is that whomever is to be Vice Pres. has already been spoken for. Seems a reasonable assumption at best.
Meet our next Pres, I have no assumption here.
"Dean Acheson was a great negotiator and compromiser, and a firm believer in the United Nations. He believed in countries working together for a common good".
Akin to - Barack Obama who is also a great negotiator and compromiser and a firm believer in the United Nations. He believes in countries working together for a common good. That, among other reasons, is why I wholeheartedly support Barack Obama for President of the United States Of America in 2008.

I'm so tired of this.
Why should she not go to the convention?
The democrats are split evenly. Obama is only ahead because he lucked out and most of the primaries and caucuses were held before any of his negatives were common knowledge (Thanks David Knowles for your small part in this...you must be so proud).
Ted Kennedy took it to the convention (and lost but got his point across).
Ronald Reagan took it to the RNC and WON!
It's insulting and demeaning to all of HRC's supporters (oh wait this is aol pm, that's how they roll, on insults) to tell her not to go to the stupid convention.
Could it be because the OBOTOS are threatening violence if there are glitches in the coronation of King Barack of ____________ (nobody knows who he's representing yet).

devilspeak, Do the Math, give Clinton all votes in Mich. and Flor. and you will shockingly realize that they will not pull Hill out of her stumpin slump. The math in this election is based on one thing and one thing only. MOST DELEGATES. DNC RULES.

Just one more thing David our vote in Florida was for more then "just" candidate ..we voted on an amendment as well, and it was passed, how does that work?
The amendment was legally passed but the vote wasn't legal? They picked what was legal on the ballot and what was not? Why is the amendment legal? I would think we could over turn this vote on the amendment as well?
I am honestly having a hard time wrapping myself around this train of thought.

Don't ya love it when the Obama Love Machine turns any rumor from anyone into absolute fact.
Hillary as a running mate is up to Hillary to decide not Obama... He knows he can't win without her.
Once again the "presumptuous" nominee has left the starting gate before the gun.
Yes this race is over for now. The nominee will not be determined until the convention. Hillary will not waste her political capital on this loser.
The party provided for superdelegates for just this reason; to prevent another McGovern or Dukakis disaster and Obama is both. He has little or no appeal to middle class America, a demographic he needs to win.
Quite frankly why in the world should she bail him out. Party loyalty? They don't deserve it. The party be damned.
Obama will not get my vote no matter what or whom. I would have to hold my nose and vote for McCain if either Romney or Lieberman were his picks.

I am a Democrat from Florida and I voted in a primary that doesn't count. The Republicans look like smart, smart people for getting everything settled early, while the Democrats continue to struggle. Our votes didn't count, but the Democrats ask for a donation every week. What should we Florida voters do? I have been a loyal Democrat my entire life, but they have really tested my nerves. Our votes didn't count, but they want our cash and our votes in November.
