This was the best choice possible, IMHO. Tom Brokaw comes with a ready-made stellar reputation, and his motivation for accepting this (unfillable) post comes in large part out of loyalty and reverence for a dear friend instead of the ambition of any another. He's already reached the pinnacle of his profession. That said, my second choice would be David Gregory.

I also have to mention that Tim Russert's memorial service last Wednesday was THE most moving, poignant and oft-times funny, memorial service I have ever seen. The cherry topping for the bittersweet sundae came when the attendees emerged from the venue, after listening to a ukelele-strummed version of "Over the Rainbow" (from his personal iPod playlist) to find just that....up in the D.C. skies. A double rainbow, even. Rest in peace, sweet prince.

Ah, Izzy. A good touch.

Brokaw is a great choice. He's smart, he's grounded, and he doesn't really have to worry about his career anymore. This should be interesting. I predict Cronkite sized waves from this.

How about Dick Gregory?

at last the media has done something right.

Tom Brokaw is a very professional respectable journalist....one of the best. I doubt he'd want the job long term. Matthews & Mitchell not right for the position at all. I would not turn MTP on with either of them in the seat. I've pretty much tuned out that network due to bias. Brokaw is a class-act however.

Brokaw is the reasonable choice for the interim (he's the only one who's not committed to other projects at the moment and has the experience for a quick fill in), but they need someone young and energetic for the permanent slot which will start Jan. 2009. I think MSNBC's Chuck Todd is the best choice, and will probably get the permanent position starting next year.

One of the best on MSNBC, plus he's got the election statistic thing going on, albeit sans dry erase board. I think he may even be more authoritarian & tougher than David G.....Gregory, that is.

Olbermann is not trying for the position as stated by him. He states that he is "not qualified" and that Chris Matthews has not inquired about it.

So don't worry they won't get the job.

We don't know anything about Obama is an understatement of the century.

We know he was born in 1961 which makes him 47 this year. We know he got into the Senate 3 years ago (by kicking his supporter Alice Palmer off the ballot)

So, that leaves us 44 years of WHAT?

We know he attended the extreme racist church with his wife Michelle, we know Rev. Jeremiah Wright was his mentor for 20 years, the anti-American racist bigot. We know his friends are Reczko, Ayers, Farrakhan, Oprah (they are all in the same neighborhood)of Chicago.

We know Obama went to Africa to see his arab-muslim family in Kenya (they are registered as arabic muslims) but Obama has never told the truth about his muslim origins. Obama was born a muslim, by his father. Obama took a Muslim name Hussein when he came of age. He will always be a muslim. If he becomes an apostate, it is punishable by death in the Islamic world.

We know Obama hates his mothers race, we know he hates white people for everything, we know he and his wife are both racist, we know he is a liar, we know he wants to be president at any cost, we know his connection to the most radical groups in Chicago middle east muslim Reczko, communist terrorist Bill Ayers, Nation of Islam Farrakhan... we know he sat on the board with Bill Ayers, for the Arabic muslim society, the Woods foundation, we know Obama took lots of money from Reczko (helped him get contracts in Chicago) but really, WHO IS OBAMA?

It was obvious that the DNC dud not want Hillary to win the nomination. All you had to do was educate yourself on who is running the DNC. Then take a good hard look at who endorsed Obama. If you do that --- ding ding ding --- the light will come on. (Hint: ‘swimmer Teddy’ was one --- pig Pelosi was another).

Talking to an Obama supporter is like talking to a tree.

You ask, “Why are you voting for Obama?”

They say, “Change.”

OK, “What change?”

They say, “You know, change.”

You reply, “NO, I don't know. What change?”

They say, “You know, change everything.”

Damn --- Obama just programmed the word change into their small minds and, like robots, they just repeat it. They don't know why they're saying it; they just seem to be happy to say the word ‘change’.

Sooner or later, people will wake up and realize that Obama has just taken eloquently oratorical advantage of us!

I'm not convinced the ‘change’ he speaks of is the one we've been wishing for and is the right one for all of us. Hillary was the better candidate.
