Barack Obama's campaign responds the RNC ad on energy. It's a directly negative contrast against McCain using what most liberals call "Rovian big lie" politics. It's a tough ad. This is the first negative attack ad from a candidate.

And it's what you expect from a professional Chicago politician, nothing new about Obama.

Factcheck.org will have a field day with this spot.

When Obama says "raise millage standards," he means killing every last working-class United Auto Worker job left in America. But as a NAFTA-supporter, Obama probably doesn't care.

When Obama says "McCain will giver more tax breaks to big oil," the truth is - so will Obama. But unlike McCain, it is Obama who has taken more campaign cash from big oil executives than any other political candidate.

When Obama says he'll fast track technology for alternative fuels, he doesn't disclose that you'll be paying more in tax-dollars (or he'll further bust the budget) to subside it. He also neglects to share that his bio-fuel program is leading to a rapid deforestation of the rain forest and contributing to raising food costs and shortages. Killing our environment and starving poor people is not really a solution.

When Obama tries to link McCain to Bush by voting percentage, he makes it fair game to link him to all of his Party's wacky votes and doings. Since, after all, he voted 97% of the time with them. If one non-sequitur applies to McCain then turnabout must be fair too...right?

This type of negative guttural response from Obama is cheap and highly disappointing. It almost seems desperate.

The ad's script reads:
On gas prices, John McCain's part of the problem.

McCain and Bush support a drilling plan that won't produce a drop of oil for seven years.

McCain will give more tax breaks to big oil.

He's voted with Bush 95% of the time.

Barack Obama will make energy independence an urgent priority.

Raise mileage standards.

Fast track technology for alternative fuels.

A $1000 tax cut to help families as we break the grip of foreign oil.

A real plan and new energy.

OBAMA: I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
