Fox News Needs to Hire That 'Fact Writer'

Earlier this month it was noted by some news organizations that Fox News was in actively recruiting for the position of "Fact Writer":

Freelance Fact Writer
New York
Requirements/Responsibility:

FOX News Channel, a fast-paced 24-hour television news operation in New York City, is seeking a Freelance Fact Writer for its information center.
Responsibilities include writing on-air facts and press conference quotes for daytime programming. Individuals must have strong writing skills, be able to handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and work well in a team atmosphere. Excellent communication and writing skills are also required.
A successful candidate will:
• Possess a strong interest in news and be well-informed about current events
• Be detail oriented and pay close attention to spelling, grammar, syntax
• Have ability to write in a concise, conversational and colorful style at an extremely fast pace
Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule including weekend shifts. This is a high-pressure position where your work product gets national exposure on a daily basis. A bachelor's degree is required.

Now note that this isn't a fact-checker position. The designee will write facts. But I guess that's good enough for our favorite cable 'news' channel - at least they're acknowledging that facts exist - whether real or imagined. I'm hoping this hire was made and is in training after this latest FNC gaffe.

Watch the clip below from MSNBC's The Verdict with Dan Abrams (David Schuster filling in). About 2 minutes in you'll see how Fox butchered a report about iran's missle testing. 'Straites' of Hormuz is misspelled, the news reader mispronounced 'Hormuz' and horror of horrors, the straights are marked in the wrong place.

The rest of the clip is pretty fun, too.
