Barack Obama's campaign released a new :30 second TV spot in battleground states titled "American Leadership." It's focus is national security with an eye on nuclear weapons.

According to Obama's press shop, this spot will air in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Previously, Obama had stated nations with small defense budgets are not a problem nor much of a threat to America.

It's good to see, during the course of a political campaign, Obama learned that it only takes one suitcase full of bad stuff to harm and kill millions.

This is a smart ad for Obama.

It projects strength and experience even if he has none. His campaign is aiming directly at his weakest spots and attempting to shore them up. A good political move. While the national headlines pound the economic realities this ad, and today's speech on foreign policy, may seem tone deaf. But its about the poling numbers and the Obama operatives are reading them right.

The ad's script reads:

Obama: We are a beacon of light around the world. At least that's what we can be again. That's what we should be again. The single most important national security threat that we face...

:...is nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists.

What I did was reach out to Senator Dick Lugar, a Republican, to help lock down loose nuclear weapons. We have to lead the entire world to reduce that threat.

We can restore America's leadership in the world.

I'm Barack Obama, and I approve this message.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
