Has PUMA Met Its Match?

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and her name that sat on him was Christina, and Hell followed with her.

As I come close to wrapping up a week of stories about PUMA (People United Means Action, or Party Unity My Ass, or Pelting Unicorns Mit Acorns), I was hoping to have reached a state of Nirvana by now, in which I would clearly see that up really was down, and voting for John McCain was the way to strike a blow for women everywhere. After meeting (virtually) Darragh Murphy, the founder of PUMAPAC, and dipping a toe into the Just Say No Deal coalition's cyber-pool, I was starting to feel like part of the gang.

But, then, I was contacted by Christina Cedeno, also known as The Anti-PUMA. She has put together a website that aims to act as smelling salts to those in a PUMA trance. The 22 year-old preschool teacher says she can't wait to get mic'ed up and throw down with a real live PUMA. She says there aren't that many of them.

According to the Anti-Puma's research, she estimates that there may be only about 20,000 PUMAs, as opposed to the millions PUMA claims. The idea, she says, is to start a slew of sites, and have the same people hitting all of them to make it appear to be a bigger movement.

I was skeptical, but then, I saw an article from ABC13.com, in which Darragh Murphy and The Anti-Puma are both quoted, and it made me pause:

She (Murphy) says her group believes Obama will not win in November and that "this is not a movie or a television show. People will not vote for Obama in November".

Her group just released its fundraising numbers for June and it pulled in $22,840.

Twenty-two grand? My dog, Emma, raised more money that that in her presidential bid, and she doesn't even have PayPal.

This whole thing is giving me a headache. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I can tell that many PUMAs are sincere, at least in their grief over Hillary's defeat. That's all the more reason for me to want them to know the truth about PUMA.

That truth is easy to know, and difficult to prove. Like that Hillary sign that the McCain campaign doctored, all is not what it seems here. Why would a "movement" like Just Say No Deal spread itself out over 60 kajillion websites, instead of concentrating its resources in one place?

I also have to scratch my head and wonder why, of the gazillion JSND sites that specifically redirect Hillary's votes to another candidate, why is that candidate always John McCain? Wouldn't you think there would be some Hillary supporters who would go for an anti-war, anti-bestial rape candidate like Ron Paul? What about Bob Barr or Ralph Nader? Not even one?

Whether Darragh Murphy, or any of PUMA/JSND's mouthpieces, actually carries a GOP membership card and knows the secret handshake (it's a fist bump! Shhhhh!), it is clear that their passionate followers are being duped.

Alas, it looks like there may be some trouble in PUMAPAC paradise. Visitors to the PUMAPACUSA.org site were greeted with this less-than-gruntled message today:
The Puma PAC Action Center will be down indefinitely.

My apologies to my fellow Pumas, but due to apparent differences in opinion on how my Action Center site should be utilized and operated in relation to the PAC, I am no longer willing to put in the time to maintain the site.
Was that today's "Daily Growl?"

In any case, it looks like I'm not done peeling this onion, and I'm still waiting to see if Ms. Murphy will answer the follow-up questions I sent her. I've also got some more questions for The Anti Puma. Stay tuned.
