As I reported earlier, John McCain released an ad today in which the Democrats of Christmas Past praise John McCain as a "Maverick."
I predicted a response by the Obama campaign before the end of business, consisting of Republicans eviscerating McCain and/or praising Obama.
Close, but the response is from the DNC, and it hews closely to the McCain ad, using modern-day quotes from the exact same Democrats to make the point that McCain has lost his Maverick mojo.
The DNC has been doing a good job in pushing back against the McCain campaign, which begs the question, "Who are you and what have you done with the Democrats?"
Since they probably don't want to give him the free exposure, I'll share with you Republican Gordon Smith's ad about a newer "Maverick" that he reached across the aisle to work with.
STOP THE DRAMA - NO OBAMA --- GET A BRAIN-VOTE McCAIN!

Good for you John McCain! Speak to Americans in America, not to Europeans in Europe.
Let Obama suck up to the rest of the world. Why should we care about Europeans, they certainly don't give a damn about us?!
We have a better, cleaner and more free country than any European will ever have.
Obama can take his socialist agenda over there and sell it... I'm not buying!
McCAIN 2008!

The real video of the democrats responding to the maverick video can be found here . http://www.hcsfjm.com.........oh by the way talking about video's , check this out.....
50: John McCain mocks energy conservation. Barack Obama worked hard highlighting little things like properly inflating tires to help conserve energy, and McCain made fun of it.
#51: John McCain thinks we are better off now than we were eight years ago. Yes, his latest ad contradicts that, but in the Republican debate in January 2008, he said we were better off now than we were eight years ago. Fact is, inflation and unemployment rates are up.
#52: John McCain is in the pocket of big oil. He has accepted over $2 million in contributions from big oil companies, and has offered tax breaks to them as well. Barack Obama highlights these bad ideas in a TV ad.
#53: John McCain opposes the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). This plan would make it easier for American workers to decide if they wanted to unionize at their workplace, and McCain doesn't support giving them that right.
#54: John McCain played the race card. His ad featuring Paris Hilton and Britney Spears injected race into the campaign.
#55: John McCain promised a clean campaign, based on the issues - but has not stayed that course. He has started running negative attack ads, after saying he had respect for Barack Obama.
#56: John McCain flip-flopped on taxes. He once said he'd never raise taxes. Now - he's open to raising Social Security taxes.
#57: John McCain flip-flopped on affirmative action. He used support it...now he changed into the wrong direction and supports a measure on the ballot in AZ to end the policy.
#58: John McCain is two-faced on lobbyists. He has constantly said he wants nothing to do with 'big-moneyed special interests'...but he has taken in $181,000 in donations from lobbyists.
#59: John McCain's priorities for health insurance companies are flawed. He is all for them covering Viagra, but not birth control.
#60: John McCain is still fixated on the 'surge.' He doesn't get that the surge is over - he believes it's still going on.
#61: John McCain isn't fit to be commander in chief. He lost five Navy aircraft during his flying career.
#62: John McCain needs a geography lesson. He brags he's been to Iraq so many times, but he said Iraq borders Pakistan. Look at a map, John....there's a little country called Iran in between.
#63: John McCain supports the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy in the military. He believes the anti-gay policy is working.
#64: John McCain has slammed Obama for only attending one Afghanistan hearing...but McCain's even more guilty! The Arizona Senator has not attended any committee hearings on Afghanistan.
#65: John McCain says the war in Iraq is not related to the war in Afghanistan. Barack Obama pointed out that the Senator from Arizona is dead wrong.
#66: John McCain's top economic advisor thinks the poor economy is just a 'mental recession.' Phil Gramm called America a 'nation of whiners.'
#67: John McCain's Gas Tax Holiday is a joke. Virtually every economist has shot down McCain's idea of a gas tax holiday. It just won't work!
#68: John McCain flip-flops on immigration. First he applauded a clear route to citizenship, now he's changed to a "fences-first" stance.
#69: John McCain gives us double-talk on Iraq. He says on the one hand, we gotta keep it going with no timetable. Then, more recently, he says we'll balance the budget by winning the war in Iraq and getting the troops home.
#70: John McCain represents the third term of Karl Rove. Steve Schmidt is the latest person to be at the top of the campaign - another name involved with McCain who worked closely with Karl Rove.
#71: John McCain is taking money from Swift Boat veterans. In 2004, he called them dishonest and dishonorable.
#72: John McCain flip-flopped on swiftboat veterans. In 2004, he condemned the swiftboat veterans, now, he endorses them, with Bud Day back on the scene.
#73: John McCain is a tax cheater. Cindy McCain failed to pay property taxes on time - that is not the type of responsibility that we want in the White House.
#74: John McCain is an opponent of helping rail transit. When he chaired the Senate Commerce Committee, he opposed public financing of Amtrak - a service very important in this day of high fuel prices.
#75: John McCain's healthcare plan would not help Americans. It would tax your healthcare benefits and leave working families at the mercy of big insurance companies.
#76: John McCain is a fear monger. Adviser Charlie Black suggested another terrorist attack would help McCain and the Republicans win.
#77: John McCain is more of a game show host than a candidate, offering up gimmick after gimmick. First it was the gas tax holiday, but now - he wants taxpayers to give $300 million to whoever develops the next new electric battery. Too bad the Japanese are already five years ahead of the US in developing the next generation battery.
#78: John McCain does not have a good environmental record. The League of Conservation Voters gave him a zero rating when it comes to pro-environment votes.
#79: Cindy McCain criticizes Michelle Obama for not "always" being proud of her country. Guess what - John McCain said the same thing.
#80: John McCain graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. Out of 899 graduates, he was ranked 894.
#81: John McCain uses scare tactics. John McCain accuses Barack Obama of having a "September 10" mentality. We've heard this before from George W. Bush. Republicans have NO problem using September 11 for political gain.
#82: John McCain is in favor of offshore drilling for oil. Of course, this is AFTER he was opposed to it. Drilling for oil off the shores of the United States WON'T ease the gas burden.
#83: John McCain was part of the Keating Five. John McCain was part of the five Senators who were tied to dirty deal with Charles Keating.
#84: John McCain doesn't support prisoner's rights. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Gitmo detainees. John McCain says that the ruling "concerns" him.
#85: John McCain doesn't care about women's interests. He wants to overturn Roe v. Wade (among other things) - Planned Parenthood gives him a zero lifetime voting record on women's issues.
#86: John McCain won't repeal George Bush's tax cuts. This is another issue that he has flip-flopped on, and his plan will continue to put this country into a deeper budget deficit.
#87: John McCain agrees with Bush's illegal wiretapping policy outside of FISA. At one point he did disagree with Bush on the subject, but he flip-flopped and now supports the President.
#88: John McCain doesn't know anything about the economy. He himself said he doesn't know as much about it as he should.
#89: John McCain voted with George Bush 89% of the time through his administration. Just more proof that if he's elected, it's more of the same.
#90: John McCain is a fake campaign finance reformer. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) presented this reason during his in-studio visit, and believes McCains back-room dealings need to be exposed.
#91: The Supreme Court. John McCain himself has said he wants to appoint clones of Alito and Roberts to the high court. With that, Roe v. Wade and other important decisions will go right out the window.
#92: His bad "comb-over," that he won't admit to. He won't just be honest and admit he's balding - what else won't he be honest about?
#93: John McCain supports the war in Iraq. He stated he would stay in Iraq for 100 years.
#94: John McCain will be nothing but a third term of George Bush. He wants to continue the same policies that have failed for the last eight years, as Barack Obama pointed out.
#95: John McCain is too old to run the country. He'll be 72 this year. Back in 2000, he admitted to PBS's Jim Lehrer he's too old to be President!
#96: John McCain does not support the GI Bill. He's against giving our veterans full scholarships to college upon returning from service.
#97: John McCain has bad judgment related to the people he cozies up to. He was endorsed by, and was good friends with John Hagee - it took him three months to reject the endorsement! What other type of people might he get close to when he's president?
#98: John McCain doesn't know Shiite from Shinola. Even Joe Lieberman corrected him when he mixed up Shiites and Sunnis.
#99: John McCain doesn't want to change anything about our relationship with Cuba. He is attacking Barack Obama's willingness to meet with Raul Castro.
#100: John McCain will try to stir up war with Iran. We've seen this with his recent exchange with Barack Obama, saying we shouldn't talk - we should just bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
#101: John McCain's connection with Lobbyists. Special Interests, Special Interests. Ouch. The prime connection is Thomas Loeffler - who resigned from McCain's campaign because of his lobbyist connections.

..."and praising Obama (like Gordon Smith's current ad)?"
Oops too late = the Obamacamp already came out spittering and sputtering AGAINST the ~unmitigated audacity of Smith using Obama as a swell sound bite. So after being ON RECORD, it probably wouldn't look too good to flop and use Senator Smith ~as a good show of "being overly willing to work across party lines" {especially after all the back-pedalling didn't look very promising for the FUTURE of bipartisanship under an Obamaregime!! AND the Merkely camp was whining NO FAIR b/c they got sacked before they even got a chance to run with the ball... perhaps better NOT to pick old scabs there}
Heard one of the local {big3} TVstations conducted a new survey in the land of the webbed-footers. Obama took Portland ~but every OTHER county in the state shockingly went to McCain?! {Eugene will no doubt come around when the kids flock back to classes as well as Corvalis -new home of Michelle's 'head basketball coach brother'} Although it's probably a given that the farmers and ranchers over on the OTHER side would still rather ANY repub than a LIBERAL lefty {except maybe nouveauyuppie Bend area}
McCain AND Smith appear to BOTH have a tough row to hoe though... {still an interesting survey FWIW}

Eye on the Prize 7/15/2008
Barack Obama is not a left candidate. This fact has seemingly surprised a number of progressive people who are bemoaning Obama’s “shift to the center.” (Right-wingers are happy to join them, suggesting Obama is a “flip-flopper.”) It’s sad that some who seek progressive change are missing the forest for the trees. But they will not dampen the wide and deep enthusiasm for blocking a third Bush term represented by John McCain, or for bringing Obama by a landslide into the White House with a large Democratic congressional majority.
A broad multiclass, multiracial movement is converging around Obama’s “Hope, change and unity” campaign because they see in it the thrilling opportunity to end 30 years of ultra-right rule and move our nation forward with a broadly progressive agenda.
This diverse movement combines a variety of political currents and aims in a working coalition that is crucial to social progress at this point. At the core are America’s working families, of all hues and ethnicities, whose determination to move forward does not depend on, and will not be diverted by, the daily twists and turns of this watershed presidential campaign. They are taking the long view.
Notably, the labor movement has stepped up its independent mobilization for this election. It is leading an unprecedented campaign to educate and unify its ranks to elect the nation’s first African American president. Last week, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka told the Steelworkers convention that there is “no evil that’s inflicted more pain and more suffering than racism — and it’s something we in the labor movement have a special responsibility to challenge.”
If Obama’s candidacy represented nothing more than the spark for this profound initiative to unite the working class and defeat the pernicious influence of racism, it would be a transformative candidacy that would advance progressive politics for the long term.
The struggle to defeat the ultra-right and turn our country on a positive path will not end with Obama’s election. But that step will shift the ground for successful struggles going forward.
One thing is clear. None of the people’s struggles — from peace to universal health care to an economy that puts Main Street before Wall Street — will advance if McCain wins in November.
Let’s keep our eyes on the prize.
That’s right. The Communist Party Of The United States wants to elect Barack Hussein Obama as our President.
Why do you think that is?
And why has their endorsement been so studiously ignored by our watchdog media?
(Imagine if a similarly storied ultra-right lunatics had endorsed John McCain? Though, of course, there is no group like that on the right.)
Still, won’t it be pleasant finally to have a President that the same hard-line Communists who supported Joseph Stalin can support?
This is the kind of “unity” Mr. Obama will bring us.
ALTHOUGH the cute little o'bamaguppies {yuppies in training} shouldn't be allowed to run with scissors
c'est la vie lols

cjanis; Great post. I'd heard most of it, but it's nice to see it laid out coherently.
I find McCain's continued decline and regression into pettiness and childishness troubling. Like many others, I used to admire him. Now he seems to have nothing but a fixation on Obama and on weird, illogical, negative personal attacks. The fearmongering really, really bothers me....have we learned nothing from Rove and Cheney? If it's not 'fight them there' it's 'Obama is a communist' - a stirring up of mindless emotions, shades of McCarthyism.
I've noticed that on the whole, those who support Obama have done their homework and don't cave into this sort of irrationality. There are always exceptions, but the swiftboating and gullibility seem to be all on the GOP side.

Isn't Mcain coming off being desperate because he has nothing to offer but negative commercials sleazing Obama. Isn't this the same Mccain who vows he won't leave iraq until there is victory ? If so, he'd better hurry and start another war there because the US and Iraq have set a timetable for withdrawal. And isn't this the same Mccain saying Obama will lose jobs. The same Mccain the Republican in the Bush administration that thus far has lost 463000 jobs abd yesterday set a six year record for the most jobs lost. And isn't this the Mccain who is trying to distance himself from Bush on one hand and saying he supports Bush 95 percent of the time on the other. And there is so much more like Mccain being absent from congress 60 percent of the time and his being an adulterer. Is this the person you really want as your next president--you gotta be kidding

OBAMA TELLS LITTLE GIRL AMERICA NO LONGER “WHAT IT ONCE WAS”
On August 7, 2008, Fox News’ Hannity and Colmes aired a tape of a seven-year-old girl asking Senator Barack Obama why he was running for president.
According to Fox’s Allan Colmes, Obama “offered what some are viewing as a scary response.”
Senator Obama was shown saying, “I’m running for president because of — because I got two daughters just like you. America is — is no longer what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, ‘I don’t want that future for my children.’”
Former Governor Mike Huckabee commented, “What see saw is a candidate who is exhausted --- This was a very, very serious tactical error. It’s that kind of comment that does come back to haunt a candidate.”
I am appalled at the way Obama answered the child’s question --- he really fumbled trying to respond to it!
IT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY HE WILL NOT TAKE PART IN THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS --- there might be some other little girls around who will trip him up and make him look even more incompetent than he already does. Those little girls can be treacherous! He simply cannot perform well without pre-scripted speeches and teleprompters.
Vote for McCain in November.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR DEMOCRATS --- IF THEY REALLY BELIVE IN OBAMA --- TO URGE HIM --- DEMAND HIM TO ATTEND WITH JOHN McCAIN THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS.
LET THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASK THE QUESTIONS OF BOTH OF THEM AND LET’S HEAR WITH THEY BOTH HAVE TO SAY.
THAT WOULD BE FAIR --- AMERICAN PEOPLE ASKING CANDIDATES QUESTIONS --- NO PREPARED SPEECHES OR TELEPROMPTERS LIKE IN THE DEBATES --- NO MODERATOR --- ONLY ORDINARY AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN KNOWING HOW THE CANDIDATES STAND ON ISSUES THAT MATTER TO US.
OBAMA --- COME ON --- WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE? --- OH YES, MAYBE THE ELECTION?
“WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” URGE THIS TYPE OF MEETINGS BE HELD WITH BOTH CANDIDATES IN ATTENDANCE!
Why doesn’t Obama want to participate? You be the judge!
I’m voting for John McCain in November.

HOW CAN ANYONE TRUST OBAMA? HE HAS BASED HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN ON LIES.
I am truly sad to hear the news about Edwards. I have always admired the Edwards’ family.
David Bonior, Edwards’ campaign manager for his 2008 presidential bid, said he was disappointed and angry at Friday’s news.
Bonior replied: “You can’t lie in politics and expect to have people’s confidence.”
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE LIES OBAMA HAS TOLD TO DATE — YET HE’S THE DEMOCRATIC FRONT-RUNNER???
