Writing in
The New Republic, Hillary Clinton's former communications director Howard Wolfson
suggests ways for Barack Obama to improve relations between himself and the Clintons. "Hillary has done more," Wolfson writes, "than any runner-up in the history of the Democratic Party to support and campaign for the nominee since her concession." According to Wolfson, the larger problem for Obama is with the former President.
Because Bill Clinton believes that Obama attacked his legacy and also feels that during the campaign he was characterized as a racist, Wolfson suggests that Obama make reference to the accomplishments of the Clinton Administration, stressing, "all of the work he did throughout his life to bridge the divides in our country". Wolfson wrote that he expects Bill Clinton to make a strong argument on Wednesday for Obama's candidacy and thinks Clinton should follow that up by campaigning vigorously for Obama.
Party unity will be the biggest narrative driving media coverage of the convention, but achieving unity is not as simple as reconciling Obama and Clinton. That's the easy part. They all know how vital it is to their own interests to work together. It is, according to
this report from the
Politico, their respective teams and supporters, however, that will not let the animosity die.
