Have you seen "Charlie Wilson's War?" The film starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman deals with ex-Texas Rep. Charlie Wilson's covert dealings in Afghanistan, and how the alcohol-guzzling, lady- and fun-loving Democrat pretty much stumbled into assisting Afghan rebels in their war against the Soviets.

Wilson was a crowd-pleasing social butterfly who, at the age of 13, burned down the home of a local East Texas official who poisoned his dog. Maybe these latter endearing qualities are the reason his recent gaffe isn't causing much of a stir.
During a Monday luncheon of the Texas Justice Fund, Wilson took the podium after State Party Chairman Boyd Ritchie rallied the audience against Republicans.
"Who do the Republicans look up to?" Ritchie asked. "Karl Rove? George Bush? Tom DeLay?"
Wilson's remarks, as reported by
The Dallas Morning News, were to stress that the war in Iraq was a mistake that, if elected to the White House, Barack Obama would end it. He said the war's central focus should be Afghanistan.
But in his call for new leadership, Wilson said: "We should be led by Osama bin Laden."

The similarity in names has not been missed by some in the blogosphere. It's obviously a ridiculous connection, but what if a Republican made that goof?
"People laughed, but it was OK," the
News reports. "Whatever their differences, they were all Texas Democrats, and as usual, Charlie Wilson won over the whole crowd."
