Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) made his first speech tonight as the nominee for Vice President of the United States. He had a Big Dog to follow.
Biden's son Beau, Attorney General of Delaware and Army National Guardsman due to deploy to Iraq, narrated the introductory video featuring Senator Obama and then introduced him to the convention.
Beau recounted the story of the car accident that took his mother and baby sister and recounted his father's strength and resolve. He reminded us of Joe's legislative record and foreign policy experience. The younger Biden also reminded us that he will not be their in November to stand for his father - he'll be in Iraq.
As Joe was about to start his acceptance speech, we learned that Senator Obama was on his way to the Pepsi Center. That will be fun.
Joe gave the needed and appropriate kudos to both Clinton's for their leadership and then graciously accepted his nomination. Biden was hyper-emotional, but it's been an emotional night and an emotional convention. It's pretty apparent to me that Biden's role as VP nom will be carrying Obama's water on middle-class troubles as he recounted the major issues facing the middle and lower classes today.
Chant meme? "That's not change, that's more of the same!" will be Biden's rallying cry against his "friend", John McCain. Biden will be a more than competent stumper for the ticket and be prepared to hear "We need more than a good soldier, we need a good leader" and "John McCain was wrong and Barack Obama was right".

And then came Obama.
