Palin Scandal du Jour

Another day, another skeleton in Sarah Palin's closet. Via ABC News comes word of a second questionable firing of a government employee. You'll recall that Palin is currently under investigation for canning a public safety commissioner who did not fire a state trooper who just so happened to be her ex-brother-in-law. The findings of that case should be out just in time for the election, unless GOP lawyers can work their magic and suppress their release. But back to the latest scandal-in-waiting, and this one should really have people scratching their heads:
After taking over as mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Palin fired the longtime local police chief. The former police chief, Irl Stambaugh says he was fired because he stepped on the toes of Palin's campaign contributors, including bar owners and the National Rifle Association.
Stambaugh's lawyer, William Jermain, says the chief tried to move up the closing hours of local bars from 5 a.m. to two a.m. after a spurt of drunk driving accidents and arrests.
Odd coincidence: Palin's husband was charged with DUI back in 1986. An interesting guy, Todd Palin. He also belonged to the AIP, that Alaskan secessionist party whose founder often spews about how he hates America's government, and has cursed the flag. I thought of that when watching the video essay on the American flag at last night's GOP convention.
