PUMAPAC founder Darragh Murphy is a vociferous opponent of Barack Obama's candidacy for president, but she will be the first to tell you she's a lifelong Democrat, and is just in this to reform the electoral process and protect women. Just today, on her website, she had
this to say to "Republican interlopers":
We are still pro-choice, pro-equal-rights for women, LGBT, and people of color, pro sex-ed and pro-science. We like gay marriage. We like labor unions a lot.
However, Political Machine and Yes to Democracy have learned that Murphy's husband, Nik Langrind, runs a company called Zbridge. Here's what they do, according to their
website:
Zbridge's mission is to make midsourcing the leading solution for the contract labor and consulting needs of the most technically advanced companies.
More than simplifying your choices regarding outsourcing options, Zbridge changes the equation: with midsourcing we bring China to your door.
And
here's what Barack Obama wants to do, according to most of his speeches and his platform:
"We're going to take away tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas. We are giving (will give) them to companies that invest right here," Obama said in Dublin, Ohio.
I called Zbridge today for comment for this story. Nik Langrind declined to be interviewed.

PD toolbar! To be absolutely clear, Zbridge is doing nothing illegal, and depending on your viewpoint, nothing wrong. Furthermore, husbands and wives often have divergent interests.
This, however, is a case of divergence in word, but convergence in deed. PUMAPAC's stated
mission is this:
1. To support the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.
2. To lobby and organize for changes in leadership in the DNC
3. To critique and oppose the misogyny, discrimination, and disinformation...
4. To support the efforts of those political figures who have allied themselves with Hillary Clinton...
However, the bulk of the content on the PUMAPAC website is anti-Obama, with depictions of the Democratic nominee as a fascist, a half-man, half-beast, and as the leader of
a "movement" that "calls for the deaths of women who oppose him."
The result of all of this, as stated numerously on the site (but apart from the mission statement), is to defeat Barack Obama and elect John McCain.
While I was in
Denver, I had the chance to meet a lot of PUMAs, people who feel a deep sense of injustice, and who cherish their community. Many of them slept on air mattresses at PUMAPAC headquarters, sacrificing their own comfort for what they believe is a noble cause.
They deserve to know who it is they are following. Darragh Murphy
donated $500.00 to John McCain in 2000, a sizeable sum and her only donation to that date, and until the 2nd quarter of this year. She says she was employing an "Operation Chaos"-style strategy to defeat George Bush, but McCain was ahead by more than 30 points in Massachusetts when she donated.
She also says she voted for him in that primary.
Now, even as Hillary has lost the nomination, and John McCain has put forth a joke of a substitute for her, Darragh Murphy continues to support McCain.
That is not to say that someone can't be a Democrat, yet have other priorities. I just think her followers deserve to know what those are.
