I was just writing yesterday about the rise of tabloids in political journalism, and then today, someone hipped me to TMZ's discovery of Sarah Palin's big-hair days as an 80's sports anchor for Alaska's KTUU TV (
Click here to see the clip).
The clip features Palin going through what she calls a "Beaver Rundown."
This clip has absolutely no substantive merit, except perhaps as a harbinger of things to come. At 44, Palin is probably the first major political figure to have come of age during Madonna's "Borderline" phase. In the not-too-distant future, we could be treated to Chess King-clad politicos with mullets, crooning "Tainted Love" at a karaoke bar from a VHS tape.
Maybe someday, we'll even get a president who was in his own "Devo" tribute band. Perchance to dream.

Our New Approach to Comments
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers –
a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
