I have to credit my "Unusable Signal" co-host, Christina Cedeno, for breaking this story on Saturday night's
episode. Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's church advocates converting gay people into heterosexuals through the power of prayer. From AOL News:
When we talked about it on the show, I agreed it was heinous, but my question was, and is, who is it going to lose her? Is the belief that homosexuality is a sin really a dealbreaker for McCain/Palin voters? I mean, if forcing women to have rapists' babies doesn't do it, why would this?
It also reminded me of this hilarious CNN report on gay conversion. Christina didn't believe me when I told her about this, but here it is. The clip takes awhile to warm up, but the high point is at the 4:21 mark. Put down that glass of water and enjoy.
Update: After the jump, more about Palin's church from Countdown.
My favorite part is the joining of people and companies to do God's will. This could lead to a new age in advertising. I'm thinking specifically of those Budweiser "Wingman" commercials.
Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.I went to church for many years, and I always got the impression that prayer was not a results-oriented activity. If it is, I'm sure as hell not going to waste it converting gay people. Right off the top of my head, I can think of a hundred worthier "asks." The Jets haven't won a Super Bowl since 1969, for one thing.
"You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years.
