Senator Obama’s life story, from his humble roots, to his rise to Harvard Law School, to his passion as a community organizer in Chicago, has been at the center of his presidential campaign. But one chapter of the tale remains a blank — his education at Columbia College, a place he rarely speaks about and where few people seem to remember him.
Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.
The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public.
For better or worse, voters have taken an interest in candidates’ grades since 1999, when the New Yorker published President Bush’s transcript at Yale and disclosed that he was a C student. Mr. Bush had never portrayed himself as a brain, but many were surprised to learn the next year that his opponent, Vice President Gore, did not do much better at Harvard despite his intellectual image. When Senator Kerry’s transcript surfaced, reporters found that he actually had a slightly lower average at Yale than Mr. Bush did.
Some political observers cite such disclosures as proof that candidates’ intelligence cannot be judged solely by their political careers or the schools they attended. Grades provide a rare measure of intellect that is immune to political spin, proponents say.
“We like to pretend IQ doesn’t matter, but it really does with a lot of jobs, including the presidency,” a professor at Smith College who studies the effects of human intelligence on the economy, James Miller, said. “We can’t trust the information that candidates give us, so it’s important to look for objective data that they can’t falsify or distort.”

"Will more personal attacks on John McCain and Sarah Palin help Barack Obama?" No. The pathetic thing is this. Obama and his supporters think American's will believe them and their lies and innuendo. The smear campaign of lies and double talk show America the true nature of Obama's supporters not to mention Obama himself. Stop smearing Sarah Palin and John McCain. America has had enough of the far left Democrats. Vote for decent people. McCain Palin will bring a new revitalized America, safe from terrorist and with prosperity. ***Vote McCain Palin 08****

IS THE DEATH OF THE ARKANSAS DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIRMAN PART OF AN OBAMA BODY COUNT? By Webster G. Tarpley Washington, DC, Aug. 13 This afternoon, Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney fell victim to what was evidently a political assassination. Gwatney was a major ally of Hillary and Bill Clinton, and was a leader of the strongly pro-Clinton Arkansas delegation to the upcoming Denver Democratic National Convention. Gwatneys Arkansas delegation was known to be a hotbed of anti-Obama sentiment, and was reportedly ready to walk out of the Denver convention if Senator Clinton were not to be treated fairly by the Howard Dean- Donna Brazile DNC leadership. It was only 2 years ago. Remember the election in 2006? Thought you might like to read the following: A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high; 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon; 3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:
1) Consumer confidence plummet; 2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon; 3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase); 4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses); 5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars; 6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
America voted for change in 2006, and we got it! Remember its Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.
Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing. www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html Taxes under Clinton 1999 &nbs p;T axes under< /FONT> Bush 2008 Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary is elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. Why I’m (Finally) Supporting Sarah Palin
Since John McCain announced Sara Palin as his running mate, like many of you I suspect, I’ve been constantly asked: “What do you think of Sarah Palin?”
The struggle that I’ve been going through in trying to answer that question honestly, is that all the things I find compelling about her: that she’s attractive and charismatic, has a great personal narrative, is eloquent, a 'breath of fresh air'--yes, even "tokenism" (for lack of a better word) were also true of Obama. And, I, like many Clinton supporters, decided those were not sufficiently strong reasons to support him.
So, in one sense, I would feel like a hypocrite supporting Palin for any of those reasons.
Although I think she is more experienced than Obama—(She, has, after all, directed a budget of over $10 billion, supervised 24,000 employees and negotiated with foreign governments -Russia and China over fishing rights); she is lightly credentialed in terms of the possible field of socially progressive Republican women McCain could have chosen (Snowe, Whitman, Hutchinson etc.). And, although I respect her integrity, there is virtually no social issue on which I share common ground with Sarah Palin. Unlike John McCain, who has never been ideological; Sarah Palin is, and unabashedly so.
However as I’ve struggled with these issues since her selection, I keep coming back to two points. Of all the basic rights—human rights-- that Democrats have stood for---there are two that seem to me to be the most important: the right to vote (and have that vote counted fairly) and the right to free speech.
The right to vote, it seems to me, is not simply about exercising your franchise—but actually having that exercise tied to a result. Whether we look narrowly at Florida and Michigan, or broadly at caucus and convention intimidation and fraud—what becomes clear—crystal clear—is that the delegates—both in number and composition-- did not accurately represent the ‘will of the people’ that voted for them. And, as a tribute to their organizational skill, if not their integrity, the Obama campaign did everything in their power to ensure that that would be the case. Just as importantly, throughout the nomination process, the Obama campaign did everything possible to curtail the free speech of those who opposed him. Whether it was as simple as harassing supporters at the local metro, or as brazen as intimidating delegates at state conventions and threatening members of the Black Caucus---opposition to Barack Obama put people at risk—to be taunted, insulted and harassed in a way I’ve never before experienced in a political campaign.
So, I come down to this. Do we believe that the Obama campaign curtailed the freedom of speech of those who opposed him? Do we believe that Clinton’s supporter's votes were not counted fairly? If we answer ‘yes; as I have answered, than it seems to me that the fact that we disagree with Sarah Palin on reproductive choice, or creationism, or even protecting the Polar Bears—is the human rights equivalent of small potatoes. There are two basic rights that make us a democracy; two essential rights that keep us free. If I have my voice—and my vote—I can work for all the other issues. Without them, I can do nothing.
So, this fall I will vote for John McCain and, yes, Sarah Palin. I will vote as a protest, and as a promise. A protest at what took place; a promise that it will never happen again. I will vote as a democrat.

Obama's Camp Needs to Stay Focused Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Good news. I have been invited for about the fiftieth time to have dinner next week with Barack Obama for $28,500 at 5 p.m. or to attend the second-tier reception (clearly, it will be a quick dinner for the senator, anyway) two hours later for a mere $2500.
The first five or six times, I actually responded, explaining that I couldn’t afford the ticket prices, was sure that this would not be an occasion to really get to know the senator and, in any event, have long made it a personal policy not to contribute to campaigns that I write about and talk about on television.

But the invitations to wine and dine with Obama are nothing compared to the volume of Palin email I’m getting. But if the goals is to defeat McCain and elect Obama, sending hundreds of emails attacking Sarah Palin is not the way to do it.
One of the things that the initial barrage of mostly unfair attacks on Palin by many of my friends managed to accomplish was to turn her into a martyr, a heroine, a symbol of the bias and viciousness and just plain sexism of many in the left medial bloggerland. It helped turn Sarah Palin into one of the most popular and respected people in the country.
It gave her an excuse to avoid the Sunday talk shows she was probably not ready for anyway, and to insist that she was going to deal with the press on her terms, not theirs.’

As if that weren’t enough, what it also did was to blunt all the attacks – fair and unfair – that have come since. You know the line she will use if/when Biden goes after her in the debate for switching her position on the Bridge to Nowhere, or firing the supervisor who wouldn’t fire her taser-crazed ex-brother-in-law, or whatever the latest barrage entails: “As one of my heros once said, in very similar circumstances, ‘there you go again.’” And she’ll bring the house down. Even though I’ve just told you it’s coming. Given what’s come before, it can’t help but work.
and THERE YOU GO AGAIN. Thanks media

WHAT WE DON'T NEED IS
We do NOT need a LIAR who is ultra-liberal, black-radical, white-hating, anti-American, muslim-born, terrorist-loving, arrogant, narcisstic, un-accomplished, inexperienced, CORRUPT spawn of the Chicago Political Machine, the most corrupt mob-connected political organization in the country as the President of the US of A.
WHAT WE DO NEED IS A DEMOCRATICALLY CONTROLLED HOUSE AND SENATE TO RESTORE A BALANCE OF POWER BADLY NEEDED IN OUR GOVERNMENT.

=============================== I didn't copy all your post but it was a great post!
You are so right -- Obama and the DNC have effectively silenced freedom of press and freedom of speech in this election.
I have been saying that back since poor Hillary got stomped on by a biased news media and then the stomping re-inforced by her own party.
I know that she is a loyal democrat but I wish she would stand up and be heard! She needs to call them on their disgusting, dispicable displays of favoritism towards Obama.
I have always loved Hillary but I have to say that I am sadly disappointed that she has not come out with the truth about what went on during the primaries!
I also am voting for John McCain and I have been a democrat for over 40 years.

There's no need for personal attacks when McCain/Palin's policies are understood by the public.
Instead of personal smears, there's a battle of ideas to consider -- from healthcare to the economy to foreign policy to corruption in Washington. As for Iraq, do we go on with the neocons’ domineering vision to transform a region into ourselves -- one as different as the Middle East? Or is it Obama's plan to remove troops at one to two brigades each month to be out in 16 months; initiating an aggressive diplomatic effort; easing the demand on our military; and preventing $10 billion of our tax dollars from being thrown in there every month?
On the economy, McCain's has plans to keep up the proven failure of a trickle down economics. More tax cuts for the richest at a time when the wealthy to impoverished gap is the largest since the Depression. He will give away billions in subsidies to Big Oil. He will also privatize Social Security. Obama's plan is to have a $1,000 annual tax cut for working/middle class families - triple the amount in McCain's plan; a new Social Security tax only on incomes above $250,000; a $4,000 annual college tuition credit for those who commit to national or community service programs; and eliminate income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000 a year.
McCain has no plan other than a tax rebate for health care, and allow his friends in the health insurance lobby to run things -- McCain has had at least 133 lobbyists running his campaign and raising money for him. Obama will make available a new national health plan to all Americans, regardless of pre-existing conditions, that is similar to the plan available to members of Congress.
McCain and Palin would open the door for imprisoning women who have abortions. Their platform is to ban abortion even in instances of rape and incest.
Personal attacks should not be confused with questions of judgement. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

What personal attacks? Oh, you mean using a common turn of phrase about McCain's economic plan that conservative news networks manage to turn into a sound bite and a personal attack.
I guess they had to do something when they got tired of emphasizing Obama's middle name and "accidently" saying Barack Osama.
