Palin Won't Cooperate on Troopergate

The abuse of power investigation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, dubbed "TrooperGate," is going to have to proceed without her. From Palin spokesman Ed O'Callaghan: (via AFP)

"I think it's fair to say that the governor is not going to cooperate with that investigation so long as it remains tainted and run by partisan individuals that have a predetermined conclusion," O'Callaghan said.

A bipartisan committee of the Alaska State Legislature voted 12-0 to hire an independent investigator to probe Palin and her staff, so perhaps by "partisan," he means that each member of the legislature belongs to a political party.

Actually, what he's referring to are comments by Democratic State Senator Hollis French, who has pushed for a timely completion to the investigation. He has speculated that the report would "likely to be damaging to the (Palin) administration", and could be an October surprise.

Palin might have a kernel of a point about French's statements, but there is an unquestionable public interest to be served by completing the investigation in a timely fashion, and unfortunately, our legal system doesn't recognize "He's being a meanie!" as a valid defense.
