Senior McCain campaign adviser Carly Fiorina is expected to join D.B. Cooper, and the guy who used to sing with George Michael, in that place just outside anyone's consciousness. The Guardian has a funny take on Fiorina's post-gaffe future:
"Carly will now disappear" - a McCain campaign source sounds troublingly Bond-villainesque when discussing the future of Carly Fiorina, former chief executive of Hewlett Packard and a high-profile Republican campaign-trail surrogate. Earlier this week, Fiorina said she thought Sarah Palin lacked the experience to run a business such as HP. She later "clarified" her remarks by adding that she didn't think John McCain or Barack Obama had the right experience, either. Time to press the button under the desk that opens the trapdoor over the shark pool.
You can see Carly's gaffe below.
For those of you who are new to the party, Senior McCain adviser Phil Gramm made arguably the worst gaffe of this campaign, certainly worse than Carly's. Since then, McCain has been constantly changing Gramm's position relative to "the bus," first throwing him under, then dusting him off, under again, back...
I will be interested to see if McCain has as hard a time saying goodbye to Carly. If not, I'll have to wonder why. Carly has a lot more to offer McCain than Gramm, and doesn't bear the responsibility for the current economic crisis the way Gramm does. Why would McCain consider Gramm indispensable, and Fiorina expendable?

But it was the Clinton remarks that touched a potentially sensitive spot for the Obama-Biden ticket. With Sarah Palin's addition to the Republican ticket potentially energizing some women voters, Biden's remarks raised anew a legitimate question of whether Obama would have been better off picking the former first lady as his running mate. One could imagine Senator John McCain's campaign even using Biden's remarks in their own ads to exploit female misgivings about the Democratic ticket. Just this week, he mused that Senator Barack Obama might have been better off with Hillary Rodham Clinton as his running mate.
"Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America," Biden said Wednesday in Nashua, New Hampshire. "Quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me."
a human verbal wrecking crew. This is the fellow who nearly derailed his nascent presidential campaign last year by calling Obama bright and clean and articulate and who noted that you needed a slight Indian accent to walk into a Dunkin' Donuts or 7-11 in Delaware.
The guy who, reading his vice-presidential acceptance speech from a TelePrompter, bungled McCain's name, calling him "George" ("Freudian slip, folks, Freudian slip," he explained).
The guy who, on the day Obama announced him as his running mate, referred to his party's presidential nominee as "Barack America" and noted that his own wife, Jill, a college professor, was "drop-dead gorgeous" but who, problematically, possessed a doctorate.
The guy who has said he is running for president (not vice president) and who confused army brigades with battalions. Who referred to his Republican vice-presidential opponent as the lieutenant governor of Alaska.
In Fort Myers, Florida, last week, he referred to the "Biden administration," before quickly correcting himself to say the "Obama-Biden administration."
"Believe me, that wasn't a Freudian slip," he said, laughing and crossing himself. "Oh lordy day, I tell ya."
New one to add to the list:

Paying higher taxes is a Patriotic Act for wealthier Americans
I'm sure she will disappear. Now that McCain is suddenly trying to look loke he's on top of economic issues he will certainly have to ask her to step aside. Afterall, McCain just said in a stump speech that we can't have CEOs run companies into the ground and be protected by a golden parachute. I asume he was talking about Carly's time at HP.

If you're dumb enough to say your boss couldn't run a business, you'd best be independently wealthy.
She's a victim of the same perpetual republican circular firing squad, but I'm sure it's only sexist if a democrat does it. As mccain says about his staff - We have met the enemy and he is US.

Carly spoke the truth about our top politicians when she said that they were not ready to run a major corporation. The only thing that most of these people have ever known was how to survive politically. Most of them have not run a business and have very few business skills. Tragically, we have made it possible for people to rise to the level of their own incompetence. A great example of this is Bush and Clinton. Dick Cheyney was a successful businessman, but, he rarely used his skills to help people. Dick Cheyney was more interested in helping fellow businessmen become billionaires off of our system of government. The United States needs leadership capable people with the skills to run a government of our size. These people seem to be very difficult to find. I hope that Cary doesn't disappear because she spoke the truth about our political leader's.

Carly, weren't you fired from HP? Seems like you don't know how to run a company either.
The September 16th Washington Post summed up the gravity of this issue on its front page: "Yesterday's meltdown on Wall Street brought the economy roaring back to the center of the presidential campaign, and the question for the final seven weeks of the general-election campaign is whether Barack Obama or John McCain can convince voters that he is capable of leading the country out of the morass." If the meltdown on Wall Street and bailout by taxpayers is the deciding factor of this election:
* Which candidate has the best record for consumer protection, standing up for small investors and taxpayers in America? * Which candidate has been warning us all along the way of the dangers of deregulating Wall Street? * Which candidate has a plan to get us out of this morass, restore accountability and transparency to Wall Street, and can actually be trusted to do what he says?
His name is not Barack Obama or Senator McCain, and he is invisible as far as the media is concerned.
Yesterday, Ralph Nader issued a chronology of the lead-up to the current meltdown, and his ten-point plan to restore a semblance of accountability, transparency, and incentives that would steer Wall Street away from short-termist, out-of-control casino capitalism toward fulfilling its proper function of efficiently allocating capital to advance our long-term economic well-being. The plan was sent out to 6,000 reporters, including specific e-mails and phone calls to the editors and reporters from the major newspapers that are on this beat and evening TV news producers. Aside from the Fox cable business channel, no major media picked it up.
After a series of editorial board meetings we did this week with the Washington Post and New York Times Washington Bureau, I think I know why. When we asked them what their standards for covering Ralph Nader were, it was clear they didn't have any. But Fred Hiatt, the editorial page editor at the Washington Post, hit the nail on the head. He said, "I like some of your issues, but I don't see how you being a presidential candidate affects them. I see you more as a consumer advocate." In other words, if Ralph was just some guy running for president on the ballot in 45 states with 5 percent support in the polls, he might actually get some coverage in that role, rather than having his giant stature as a consumer advocate trivialize his presidential candidate stature.
OBAMA HAS BASED HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN ON LIES. HE HAS TOO MANY TIES TO TERRORISTS AND ANTI-AMERICANS.
For the past 2 years, the Democratic leadership, including Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama has pulled all sorts of strings to make the American people believe that the economy was collapsing.
THEY HAVE NOT PASSED UP ANY OPPORTUNITY TO “HURT” THE ECONOMY IN ORDER TO MAKE THEIR POINT. THEY'LL DO ANYTHING TO GET WHAT THEY WANT.
Refusing to take common sense steps to keep oil and gasoline prices low is just one thing the Democratically-controlled Congress has done to hurt the economy.
We are now sending several billion dollars each and every day overseas. Our money is employing foreign workers to drill, pump, refine, and transport oil, instead of employing American workers to do those same jobs.
Who in their right mind would question the impact this currency drain is having? Higher gas prices make it more difficult to meet one’s home mortgage payments. And defaulting on Mortgages in part has brought on the current crisis. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lobbyists contributed mightily to the Dems. Obama was the #2 recipient of these contributions! The CEO's and top officers walked away with millions.
So should some of the fault of our current Wall Street Crisis be laid at the feet of PELOSI, REID, OBAMA, and their other liberal Democratic friends?
WITHOUT A DOUBT IT SHOULD! WE NEED TO REPLACE ALL DO-NOTHING DEMS IN CONGRESS!
I'M VOTING FOR JOHN McCAIN IN NOVEMBER!

Great..Ralph Nader swoops in again to ruin Americans lives. Let me guess, like Gore and Bush are alike, Obama and McCain are the same too right?
You have zero chance of winning, and will do nothing but take votes away from Obama. I put the last 8 years of this absolute disastrous presidency on your shoulders Ralph, and will give you the same treatment on the street I'd give Rove, Cheney or Bush...and now McCain and Palin.
My wife and I feel the way MANY Americans do, that Ralph went from one of my greatest Americans to worst villians by not throwing his support behind Gore in 2000.
Great job Ralph, thanks for reversing all your decades of great work in one incredibly stupid move.
