Conservative Republicans in the House are holding firm against the financial sector bailout as it is currently envisioned by Congressional Democrats and the White House. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said earlier today that House Republicans had not been part of any agreement that Democrats may have thought they reached on the plan. Republican support is key to the passage of any plan because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has made it clear that no plan will be brought to a vote in the House without majority Republican support. In other words, House Democrats don't want to own the eventual bailout package in case it doesn't solve the underlying problems in the nation's financial sector.
