Obama Hits Olbermann's 'World's Worst' List

I was watching Countdown last night on my DVR, and I fast-forwarded a little too far after the commercials, leaving a freeze-frame of Barack Obama above the "Worse" graphic. As I rewound to the appropriate spot, I assumed it had to be some kind of a joke, like he sounded too good in a speech, or rescued a kitten from a tree but broke several branches. But part of me wondered if the Democratic presidential nominee had really stepped in it somehow.

Well, he did. Big time. I think it is safe to say that Obama has committed the biggest gaffe of any candidate this election, one whose recriminations will haunt the Illinois senator for years to come. He will be dogged by its spectre throughout time, doomed to wander the earth in a vain search for redemption.

Sadly, I've been there, and I can confirm that no amount of good works, bribery, or even pleading, will erase this stain. The only solace I can offer is that, in the big picture, everything is temporary.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
