"It's time that normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that's kind of taken some people off guard, and they're out of sorts, and they're ticked off about it, but it's motivation for John McCain and I to work that much harder to make sure that our ticket is victorious, and we put government back on the side of the people of Joe six-pack like me, and we start doing those things that are expected of our government, and we get rid of corruption, and we commit to the reform that is not only desired, but is deserved by Americans." -- Governor Sarah Palin
As Palinisms go, this one is pretty mild. It hardly seems worthy of its own memo. I'm still wondering just where the "People of Joe Sixpack" live, and are they allies with the United States of Dude?
Still, after thinking it over, I can see how you could get worked up over this. If you're someone who enjoys the "Joe Sixpack" self-image, then Palin's comments could seem like a naked ploy to insult your intelligence. She lives in a half-million dollar house on a lake, and has glommed up $25,000 in gifts since becoming governor 19 months ago.
A lot of working people don't appreciate the beer-related moniker, finding it condescending and reductive.
Then, there are people from both groups, and others as well, who have common sense, and want the Vice President of the United States to be exceptional, not ordinary or average. I think they are the target audience for this memo.
Oh, wait, never mind. This memo was sent out by the McCain campaign.
