If there was one answer that seemed to epitomize John McCain's lackluster performance in Tuesday's presidential debate with Barack Obama, it came when Tom Brokaw asked each man whether the federal government should start a Manhattan-project-like task force to attend to the country's energy woes, or whether it should fund the thousands of small business who are already busy picking up the government's slack response. At the heart of the question was what, exactly, the role of government should be to fix what both men agree needs to be a priority for the next administration .
McCain's response drifted and zig-zagged all over the map, as did many of his answers last night. He seemed to say everything and nothing before he pivoted and launched a stuttering non sequitur attack on his opponent. Worse, he referred to Obama as "that one," showing a lack of respect for the man who was, at that very moment, mopping the town hall floor with the more experienced Arizona Senator. Watch:
Indeed, there is no love lost between these two men. But McCain has an uncanny way of showing his contempt, whether it's refusing to make eye contact, or offering snide winks to the taunts of his campaign rally audiences. Last night, after it was all said and done, McCain even seemed to dodge shaking Obama's hand, and left that task to his wife Cindy, who, hours earlier in the day had declared, apparently without irony, that Obama was waging "the dirtiest campaign in American history."
But while Palin/McCain's hardcore supporters grow ever frustrated and irate, yelling out "Kill him!" and "Terrorist!" and "Treason!" and "Sit down, boy!" (the latter to an African American sound man) at their rallies, Obama has, to borrow McCain's woefully transparent debate talking point, kept a steady hand on the tiller. In fact, if anything, he's shown that he seems to keep his cool and perform best when the stakes are highest. And that's precisely the temperament we need in a commander-in-chief.
Of course, Palin and McCain and their gang will continue with their "that one" strategy right up until election day. They will argue that Obama doesn't see America the way most Americans do (73% anyway). They'll say he's a terrorist sympathizer. They'll call him naive and uppity and whatever else they can think of to try to scare the daylights out of the nation. And through it all, "that one" keeps showing what he's made of.
As if reading from a McCain press release, the media assured us that John was a master of the town hall. That this was the forum where he shined. Well, if there's one consolation for McCain from last night's debate, it's that Obama didn't agree to more town hall appearances until now.
David Knowles for OBAHHHHBAHHHHBAHHHHMA. What a shocker!
Now they are using their next big lie, that people at Palin rallies are yelling bad things. I would bet those people are Obama plants. This is the kind of thing they have been doing from Day 1, creating racism and hate where there is none.
It's as if Knowles and Christopher have this mental block where they just cannot see one negative about Barack Obama. They are just like the Bushbots were in 1999, now it's 2008 and we have O-bots instead. From one extreme to another, with liberal idiot bloggers leading the way.
Don't worry, it looks like your hate and lies have worked. It looks like you have insulted and made a comical figure out of a good guy who really sees (for better or worse) the presidency as a public service and really feels he can do a good job at it. Oh and kudos for bringing your hatred of women (Hillary, Ferraro, and now Palin) to the forefront, we kind of suspected it all the time. Add to your list your fear and loathing of anyone over 65, McCain is OLD OLD OLD that's all we hear. Tommy Christopher never misses an opportunity to run a picture of McCain's cancer scar. Do you also hate people who are cancer survivors?
None of that messy stuff with our beautiful Barack.
Good luck with that, you are going to need it...but don't expect one kind word, one ounce of sympathy from those of us who tried to warn your silly asses about him.

Once again McCain's rudeness and ill temper reared its ugly head. What was with the comment - if a child had said that he or she would be set straight.

"That one"... McCain is a disgrace to himself and his party. If I were a Republican, due to the off comments, negative campaigning, and dishonesty he and his "mate" has exhibited lately, I would vote for Sen. Obama anyway.
Also, "my friends", I am proud of how Sen. Obama is handling these attacks. That demonstrates true leadership.

Gee, we sure got the message you are a long time Democrat tried and true. I am undecided. Both candidates scare me to death: Obama in a Greg Stillson sort of way and McCain in a Suharto way. So, considering I feel this way, it's rather hard to even vote for the lesser of the two evils. What to do?

Old, OLD, OLD Johnny Wheezer looks every minute the angry, cantankerous Geezer he is. Erratic, illogical and nasty...one may want to know if his Geritol with Iron supplement or his Metamusil is dosed accurately. Prone to "pout" when he couldn't make a direct hit, he was all over the map last night. If this is Johnny "Cut and Run's" best venue, he may want to re-think that "strategy", or is that "tactic". He and Cindy looked "out of touch" with the audience at the end and by leaving abruptly gave the impression this just wasn't their "cup of tea". Face it, America. John is NOT one of US! He can't resonate or relate to the average middle income citizens. Even when he says "middle income", it comes across hollow and uneven. I still believe we have the best choice in Barack Obama. He IS ONE OF US, and understands what we're suffering. He has a Plan and he is the right choice for America. Come on November....Obama/Biden '08

Why is McCain so cocky? And why does he treat Obama like a piece of dirt? My family taught me to respect everyone and when did we turn into a racist nation? My opinion is that McCain is sure he is going to win. Next question is why does he think that? I would like the voting machines to all be checked to see if they have been tampered with already. Can they be checked to see if McCain has already won! Bush won an illegal election, why not McCain?

I think the "that one" comment shows more Sen. McCain's age than any disrespect. It reminds me of something my mother might have said, even though she is a lot older than he is.

Why won't the liberal main stream media question Obama about his radical ties to Ayers?
Ayers was more than a neighbor. Obama is very friendly with Ayers.
Fact: Ayers and Obama worked on the Anninberg and Woods foundation for over 7 years.
Fact: Obama chaired and distributed money from this foundation to Ayers radical pet projects turning children into radicals.
Fact: Money was given to Dorn's radical projects.
Fact: ayers launched Obama's state senate campaign in his own home.
Fact: Ayers wished he could have done more to bomb federal building, police stations, Capitol Building and stated that on Sept. 11, 2001.
I have questions to all the American people who are supporting Obama.
Where was Obama's judgement in getting involved with a radical terrorist Ayers for 7 years who wanted to hurt American citizens?
Where was Obama's judgement to stay in a church for over 20 years and listen to sermons about hatred towards America and white america? and let's not forget subjecting his children to those sermons with radical views.
Where was Obama's judgement when he voted not to save a human life after a botched abortion?
These are just some on the questions Americans and the mainstream media should be asking?
Who is this man? What does it say about his character in being friendly with people who hate America?
If you feel you have the answers to these questions and are satisfied that Obama is not a left wing radical, then vote for him.
I for one, a democrat, am not satisfied because Obama, his campaign and the mainstream media have not exposed who the real Barack Obama is.
God help America if Obama wins the Presidency.
Think america and get the facts before you vote.
Don't listen to just speeches!

Any Right-Wing NutJob that wants to play the "guilty by association" game better think twice. Johnny Two-Step cut his "political teeth" with the likes of those stalwarts of virtue and honesty, G. Gordon Liddy, Charles Keating, and that subversive Iran-Contra Group. That's a group of "dinner party" must-haves if I've ever seen them. Johnny Boy has cozied up with these guys and MANY others over the years. The reality in politics is just what Johnny doesn't want to admit. His judgement is erratic and he is looking to make anything stick in order to further HIS agenda. In politics you run across all types of individuals you wouldn't ordinarily "cozy up to" in order to gain an advantage. You may accept "help" where you otherwise wouldn't for the sake of the Country and the bigger picture. St. Palin of Alaska is another one who needs to "check her ego at the door". Her associations are suspect...Freedom for Alaska Groups...Troopergate, close ties with individuals who allow her to "abuse her power" on a regular basis, tax evasion. What does this say? What's good enough for the goose, ISN'T good enough for the gander? Somehow the "I can do it because I'm RIGHT, but you can't because you're WRONG? This rings hollow in America. The Neo-Conservative Right-Wing Establishment have abused America for the last time. People want answers, NOT insults. This is an old and tired rhetoric. Johnny looks and acts, OLD AND TIRED. Time to put him to BED politically, once and for all......Obama/Biden '08
