Much blog and print space in recent weeks has been spent on the myth that a Palin supporter at a rally called for Obama to be killed. The media whispers the question "are McCain and Palin inciting violence against Obama?" The subtext of their question is obvious: Racist Republicans Looking for Lynching. (In other words, the same story they always run about Republicans.) Still, it's been a frustratingly unfair story. The solemn and concerned tone of the leftbloggers in their "moral outrage" has been particularly insipid.
Today a story is out about actual violence related to the campaigns this year. Last night, a woman in Pittsburgh had an Obama supporter "get in her face" during a robbery. According to the victim, the attacker, upon realizing she was a McCain supporter, beat and kicked her, and carved a B in her face (B for Barack). You can expect the media won't draw the connection with Obama's words. Obama would never incite or condone violence. He's a Democrat.
The double standard, though, is glaringly obvious. In the lust to elect Obama, the media has shed whatever semblance of integrity they were still clinging to after their war on Bush. From the ridiculous and unsourced front page smear by the New York Times, to the constant stream of blogs accusing McCain of being a racist, the leftwing noise machine is noisy indeed.
The real enraged voter is the Obama voter, and indeed the whole campaign. The Palin feeding frenzy was apparently not enough to satisfy their appetites, and they opted to crucify Joe the Plumber, delving deeper and with more investigative skill into this everyday man's life than they've bothered to muster for Obama, potentially the next leader of the free world. This is how they treat questioners when they are winning, so dedicated are they to the cause. If your blood doesn't run cold over the attempted silencing of Joe the Plumber then you aren't paying attention.
It will be instructive to see how the media downplays the heinous political aspect of this grotesque crime, but you may count on them doing so. After all, have you heard about any of these stories? How about people pretending to shoot Palin? How about this guy with an AK? There are many many more examples. Yet we have the Secret Service investigating rally shouters because the press pressure is so intense. The reason is obvious.
The left creates memes through repetition, and the forces of Obama are repeating their charge. They want you to think McCain voters are violent racists. They present as evidence a mere verbal outburst in the heat of a rally, and one which wasn't even directed at Obama anyway. I'm inclined to take the word of the woman with a campaign ad on her face over the words spilled in reverent fear on behalf of 'that One" by an obedient, worshipful media. Obam
Get in their faces, Obama said. And now someone has.
