Update: Obama's Aunt an Illegal Alien
Dave
Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.
...
Kenya is in eastern Africa between Somalia and Tanzania. The country has been fractured in violence in recent years, including a period of two months of bloodshed after December 2007 that killed 1,500 people.
The disclosure about Onyango came just one day after Obama's presidential campaign confirmed to the Times of London that Onyango, who has lived quietly in public housing in South Boston for five years, was Obama's half aunt on his father's side.
It was not immediately clear how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order.
That's an excellent question but I have an even better one. Will the Obama campaign return the $260 they illegally received from this woman?
FEC:
The FECA places prohibitions on contributions and expenditures by certain individuals and organizations. The following are prohibited from making contributions or expenditures to influence federal elections:
- Corporations;
- Labor organizations;
- Federal government contractors; and
- Foreign nationals.
Who is a foreign national?
- Foreign governments;
- Foreign political parties;
- Foreign corporations;
- Foreign associations;
- Foreign partnerships;
- Individuals with foreign citizenship; and
- Immigrants who do not have a "green card."
Nice. In addition to violating immigration law and living at taxpayer expense in public housing, the long lost aunt and the Obama campaign have both violated federal election law.
More on the blogosphere and this comment at Michelle Malkin:
"So let me get this straight. Millionaire Obama doesn't use his wealth to help his poor illegal alien Aunt get out of public housing, but if I complain about Obama wanting to raise my taxes to 'spread the wealth around' I'm the selfish one?"UPDATE
This just in from the WaPo:
Obama campaign reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show Onyango gave $265 to the campaign. Foreign nationals are not permitted to donate to American presidential campaigns.
"Given the information that has been brought to our attention, the contributions are being refunded," Ben LaBolt, an Obama campaign spokesman, told The Washington Post this morning.
Well, good for him. The relevant campaign impact here is to highlight the complete Federal failure to impose any kind of deportation control on illegal immigrants. This just makes most Americans extremely angry, to not only have to spread the wealth around, but share it with anyone who happens to make it off the boat legal or illegal. Republicans win this issue, slightly. But it also highlights Obama's luck to draw up against the one Republican who doesn't want to talk about illegal immigration.
