Lately it seems Saturday Night Live awoke to the fact that there are Republicans and conservatives in America with televisions too. I see this as a tremendous victory: any time left coast elites stop picturing "O Brother Where Art Thou" when thinking of the South and the Midwest is a triumph. This late realization has seen them breaking the cardinal rule of Hollywood this season. They occasionally make fun of liberals and Democrats. I know, you find it hard to believe as well. It's like waking up and finding out you're in the future (Darn you Nyquil!)
It's a pattern, you know. It started, as any good thing in life does, with mockery. Intellectual leader of the left Jon Stewart poked a little fun at the One and his audience rippled with ... virtual silence. He actually had to remind his "progressive" acolytes that it's OK to laugh at Obama. That broke the seal. In a later show, Jon roundly mocked and scoffed at the idea that the McCain campaign's "Celeb" ad was racist (tough luck Tommy). Stewart didn't go unpunished, of course. The left is nothing if not humorlessly incapable of self-examination.
The big break was the hilarious new movie An American Carol, which broke all the rules and conventions, and dared make fun of the eminently make-fun-of-able Michael Moore. Despite being a rather large target, Moore gets away with acting like a buffoon all the time, no other celebrities having the guts to tell a joke about that sacred cow. Until this movie.
SNL started cluing in this season. They had a hilarious skit about Democrats and the mortgage bailout. It was pitch perfect, mocking how the Democrats couldn't be more absurd than in their attempts to pin the mortgage crisis on Bush. So naturally, you can't find the video online anymore. The left is nothing, if not scrupulously dedicated to scrubbing history of anything negative directed their way. (UPDATE FROM A COMMENTER: The video has been put back online, albeit edited, here ... they took out the hilarious banners under each speaker that identified who they were, in particular the ones about two real democrats and George Soros were hilarious. They identified Soros as "Owner: Democratic Party". So the scrubbing, while different, is there.)
Still, SNL hasn't given up. Last night they attacked another idiot leader of the left, the always despicable Keith Olbermann. The sketch speaks for itself. Don't try to drink anything while you watch, and watch to the end because Affleck starts losing it and its hilarious:
