This is the live thread for tracking congressional results all across the country.
11:58PM Oh and big win for the GOP in LA, knocking off Don Cazayoux, tough loss, not being able to knock off Murtha.
11:57PM OK I'm going to make this the final post for the night
Fox News is forecasting a house somewhere around 258 Democratic 177 Republican. Not good for the GOP, but around what was expected. I'm watching OH and I think it might be a little less.
the senate is going to end up 57, 58 or 59, depending on MN and AK, OR I think is likely Democratic.
A tough year for the GOP, I have to say that there were narrow victories in OH, FL, and VA that did show that McCain was on his way back, as his campaign was noting. A week ago this would have been far worse.
Obviously the GOP needs to sit back, figure out what it wants to be and rebuild. Actually they needed to do that in 2006, but maybe they'll listen now.
11:22PM So it looks like that whole thing about AZ and GA being close was just bluffery. But so was PA.
11:17PM CNN did call LA for Landrieu - but it was a heck of a lot closer than the polls showed)
11:16PM OK this is crazy, GA is 83% in, Saxby has a 14 point lead and CNN still won't call it.
11:11PM They finally call MS-SEN - Wicker wins - Filibuster proof majority out of reach.
10:56PM Looks like very tight senate races in LA and MN GO Kennedy and Coleman!
10:51PM PA-12 - Looks like Murtha saved his butt after the racist stuff. Or maybe PA just really resembled that remark.
10:44PM Watch OH - Just like 2006, a horrid year for the GOP, the OH house delegation may show some surprising strength, Steve Stivers is looking like he just might keep OH15.
Jean Schmidt is also looking good in OH2 with a 15 point lead and 37% in.
10:34PM MN-SEN - 44-40 Franken with 11% in.
LA-SEN - looks very interesting - Landrieu was heavily favored but only leading now 50-48
10:25PM Oh and to no one's shock Tim Mahoney is gone (Mark Foley's old seat) that's a GOP pickup.
10:24PM Last Republican in New England? Chris Shays loses CT-04
10:20PM OK in MN-06 this is the Michelle Bachman one, she is ahead by 5 47-42. She may grit it out.
10:07PM CO-SEN - surprisingly they're not calling Udall here yet.
MS-SEN - no call for Wicker here either.
LA-SEN - Kennedy may have a chance for an upset, that would be a big surprise.
10:05PM NH01 - Shea Porter(D) defended this district successfully
9:52PM In my home state OH2 Jean Schmidt is looking good and OH1 - Steve Chabot is behind, but there's few results in yet.
9:27PM MN results Coleman vs. Franken trickling in.
9:27PM Since the Udall call in NM, no senate surprises.
9:25PM GA-SEN For some reason CNN still hasn't called Chambliss when he's leading 56-40 with 44% in.
9:09PM NM-Senate - Udall wins - One more Dem pickup
Senate: Dem 55
9:06PM To Recap the Dems have picked up VA, NH and NC so far. They have not picked up GA or KY
9:05PM FL24 - Republican Tom Feeney is losing his seat here, but this was kind of expected.
8:45PM GA-SEN - OK the one that I was sweating a little - Saxby Chambliss wins in GA. This means that the Democrats likely won't get to 60 in the senate. Wicker in MS is a possibility but he was a longer shot than Chambliss.
This is also a signal that this is not going to be a worst case GOP scenario tonight.
8:35PM GA-SEN - Chambliss(R) is building up a big lead in GA 59-37 with 13% reporting.
8:33PM NH-01 Republicans were looking for a pickup here but Dem Shea Porter looks safe 57-41
8:26PM NH-SEN - John Sununu lost - tough state anymore for a Republican in New Hampshire anymore. This is also an expected loss. Some were hoping but not I.
Senate: Dem +54
8:10PM NC-SEN - Going for Hagan - that's another Dem Pickup
Senate: Dem 53
8:09PM KY-SEN - Whew! Mitch McConnell wins KY - Big save for the GOP
8:02PM OK-SEN - Inhofe(r) wins
DE-SEN - Biden wins - so he has a backup plan
7:50PM IN08,IN09 - It looks like the GOP will not be taking these seats back this cycle. IN looks fairly static right now as far as the House goes.
7:32PM WV-SEN - Rockefeller wins, as expected
NC-SEN - too close to call, Hagan with a slight lead - this is a Dem pickup opportunity.
7:27PM IN-06 - Conservative Hero Mike Pence is winning his district by 40 points. This is a good signifier for rural GOP turnout in IN.
7:22PM KY-SEN - McConnell is eeking out a 2 point lead with 13% reporting. Also his exits look good. He is expected to win this one and it would signify that the GOP is NOT facing a doomsday scenario tonight.
7:12PM We're getting results in for Senate races KY - McConnell defending and GA - Chambliss, but too close to call as the polls close. No surprises there.
7:05PM SC has been called for Graham and VA has been called for Warner - the first Dem pickup of the night, but absolutely not a surprise.
Dem Senate: 52
7:01PM I know this isn't my beat but Mitch Daniels (R) was just called as winner for Guv of Indiana
6:56PM As expected Yarmuth looks safe in KY3 57-43 - no GOP pickup here.
6:52PM In KY3 Northrup-R lost this seat last time and wants it back from Yarmuth, but polling did not look good for him.
Also in KY we have Senate GOP Minority Leader McConnell trying to hold off strong challenger Bruce Lunsford and polling did look good for Mitch McConnell.
6:50PM IN3 - 3% reporting Souder up 53-40
6:48PM So the first thing we'll be watching is KY3 and IN3 for any D pickups.
