After the
depressing story of a busload of death-chanting schoolkids, you can imagine how happy I was to see
this story about adorable 7 year-old political blogger Stas' Gunkel getting his propers from the President-Elect: (h/t
Crooks and Liars)
Watch out Politico and First Read. Competition is on the horizon, albeit a distant one.
Stanislaw "Stas" Gunkel may soon be a big name in the political blogosphere. He's already been recognized by President-elect Barack Obama, who told him in a letter to "make a difference everywhere you go."
I was really stoked to check out
Gunkel's blog, because it's been kind of a slow news cycle. Plus, if President-Elect Barack Obama likes it,

it must be one helluva site.
I was a little mortified by the comments calling the kid an "O-bot" and claiming he's "in the tank," but I gotta say, the kid is kinda phoning it in. I mean, he's only done 3 posts in November, and one of them was
this grabber:
VOTE!
Vote! Today is November 4, 2008. Make history!
That's it. One sentence, and a photoshop job. There's no
way he should get paid for that.
Then, there's this
bit of analysis:
I think Obama should be elected as President because he wants to stop the war. He also wants to stop polluting & using fossil fuels and use renewable power like wind, water and solar... If we don't stop polluting, we will be walking around town in gas masks.
Now, Stas' may try to hide behind the fig leaf of hyperbole, but that gas mask line is pure fear-mongering. What has happened to reasonable political debate anymore?
And this kid gets a letter from Barack Obama? It's enough to make you want to redistribute his lunch money.
