The Huffington Post reports that Dennis Miller, former comedian and current right-wing pundit, made a pretty hateful joke about Barney Frank, and by extension, gay people: (Video Below)
Dennis Miller appeared on The O'Reilly Factor tonight (Miller is a frequent guest on Bill O'Reilly's show) and went on a rant regarding what Barack Obama should do to the executives of AIG when he takes office, namely, that Obama "should flatten these punks" and "come down hard on them." After Miller finished his rant, O'Reilly chimed in that Obama's next move should be "to arrest Barney Frank, correct?" Miller replies, "Eh, Barney might want to be arrested."
Miller then laughs impishly and makes the "time out" sign, while O'Reilly yuks it up about "hiding the kids." Oh, prison rape. So funny, yet so naughty.
I guess appearing on O'Reilly's show made Miller feel like he should try to out-pig Billo, but that's a really high bar for even Dennis Miller to meet.
If you're not familiar with Dennis Miller, he's the former stand-up comic who had the funny scared out of him on 9/11. His stock-in-trade was a bottomless reservoir of obscure cultural references. This clip shows just how far Miller has fallen. The old Dennis Miller would have said, "These guys make Caligula look like Bill O'Reilly. Wait, Caligula does look like Bill O'Reilly, bad example..."
As for his joke, Miller's status as the right wing's resident water carrier/vocabulary book shouldn't be threatened by this in the least. However, if you still remember when his signature head-bob strained under the weight of a coif worthy of Amy Winehouse, it serves as confirmation that the old Dennis, like his youthful mane, are gone forever.

Exodus - Chapter 2, The Preparation
On the third day of Preparation, the Beloved One surrounded Himself, once again, with Scribes and Scholars. They counseled Him and advised that many of His earlier commitments should be withdrawn. They reminded Him, the Nation’s finances are in great peril and promises to assist those in need are likely to fall short. The Beloved One listened and pondered what He should do and what He must tell His people. After a period of reflection, He instructed His crier to temper earlier announcements. Henceforth, certain pledges will be known as “goals”, obligations will be “objectives” and undesired aliens will be known as “foreigners seeking asylum.” As all skilled orators know, covenants are not “just words.” Words have meaning and, at times, they must be “adjusted.” Yes, it has been a long road, and the Beloved One has learned His lessons well.

Tommy,
Could you point me in the direction of your post singularly dedicated to decrying Sandra Bernhard's warning to Sarah Palin not to come to Manhattan lest she get gang-raped by some of Sanda's big black brothers?
Thanks.

I find it interesting that Dennis Miller goes over well on O'Reilly: He used to be considered an "elitist" comic - if you didn't get his obscure references, you didn't get the joke.

Bob,
could you point me to the other stories I've done on nightclub acts? No? Then why would I write one about Sandra Bernhard?
I can point you to a whole bunch of articles I've done recently, defending Palin from degrading, sexist behavior. Just click on my name, go back a few pages. So, why don't you point me to your apology?

Apology for what?
Pointing out that you took one comedian to task for a questionable comment while ignoring even more questionable comments by another comedian, based on the political leanings of their respective targets?
As for your defense of Palin, that arose only when the criticism came from within the ranks of her own party. Not really sure how that came into play here, but so be it.
As soon as I can think of a reason why you deserve an apology, I'll be happy to post one and point you in its direction.
Until then, this will have to do.

Bob,
Miller's not a comedian, he's a pundit. And my defense of Palin arose from the gratuitous and unfair nature of the attacks against her, from several sources on both sides. You don't read too carefully.

also, I didn't hear about Bernhard's comments until long after the fact. She made them in a nightclub as part of a comedy act, not on TV as a political analyst.

Tommy,
Unless you purposefully elected to ignore the story right after it happened, it would be hard to miss. It hit most of the news services (including AOL's) big time right after it happened. The fact that i was all over the news would tend to make the original venue kind of a moot point.
So somehow, you managed to miss that, but Dennis Miller (who's a comedian - pundit means nothing - anyone who shows up on one of these shows more than twice is now automatically a "pundit") makes a sideways remark on Billo's show and you're all over that.
Coincidentally, so is Huffington and a bunch of the other similarly-aligned sites. Huffington, btw, did manage to somehow to sniff-out the Bernhard comments that were so deftly hidden in plain sight when they were made. So even if you did miss its placement in the most obvious channels, I'm finding it kind of hard to believe you didn't glom onto it over there.
Then again, you are a blogger and as we're constantly reminded as such you're under no obligation to be partial or hold to any sort of standards other than those you impose upon yourself.
