If, in the wake of this year's historic and historically-long election, you still find yourself trolling the internet for relevant polling data, or casually checking cable news channels to see if a candidate, even one for 2012, might be delivering a speech of some kind, then you may be suffering
Acute Campaign Withdrawal Syndrome. Clearly, the comedown from media frenzy that marked the '08 contest is not easy for a lot of people. Neither the half-hearted speculation as to who will fill the Obama administration's top posts, nor the handicapping of the prospective Republican field can really scratch the itch that many people still seem to be feeling.
For these die-hard election addicts, only a pitched battle for an undecided contest, with banners and signs and speeches galore will truly satisfy. To those of you who fall into this worrisome group, there's a bit of good news today:
Bill Clinton will be back on the stump this Wednesday. Fire up the media ovens, boys! Bubba is goin' down to Georgia.
From
the AP:
Former President Bill Clinton will headline a rally for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate jim Martin on Wednesday, the candidate's campaign announced on Sunday. Clinton is the first big name Democrat to stump for Martin in his Dec. 2 runoff battle with Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
John McCain has already joined the proxy war, appearing with Chambliss on Thursday. And "never-say-quit-campaigning"
Mike Huckabee will lend his voice to the Republican cause today. The run-off is scheduled for Dec. 2, so that gives you political junkies at least a three week supply of sloganeering, YouTube ads, and
poll candy. Who will win? Will the president-elect make a cameo?
More importantly, what will happen once all the speeches have been given, all the 2008 votes finally cast, and there are--horror of horrors--no more races to be decided? Wait! I've got it:
